I honestly think this was probably part of it. People may say that they hate the marketing, but I think it's pretty clear that interest and passion was way down this year. I think one of the things that drew in voters last year was some of the drama and trash talk, for better or for worse.
Of course, I'm not sure what you do with that. However, I think it's clear that a "kinder, gentler" draft is bad for business.
Right...unless people got sick of what they saw last year and decided not to come back, or uniformly decided that we're all idiots for getting so worked up about what amounts to a monthlong fantasy league without any of the NBA watching fun.

If people got sick of what they saw, I would imagine that voter turnout would have lessened as time went on, rather than increased.
It's a moot point, of course, because nobody is ever going to advocate bickering. However, it defies common sense -- based upon what we know of the American public -- to think that drama had only a negative effect on turnout. Everybody loves a good show, and this year, the showmanship was muted.
