Private voting had that one extra step of sending a PM, and as silly as it says, I think it probably makes a difference. And I'm OK with that. Despite our low turnout for the finals, those were 11 voters who I'd guess have read 90% or more of every CB Draft thread. People that heard out the arguments, involved themselves with questions, and gave some time making a decision. You can't ask for much more.

I think private voting should at least be an option.

But if public vote threads encourage more participation and voting I have no problem with them coming back.

A small thing I think could help a lot: Alternating days between Eastern and Western conference playoffs. I know everyday my team had a "game" I was locked in on that thread, and would rarely look at the other conferences thread.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.

This year's process essentially was a public/private split. Those who wanted to post their votes did after they turned in their private ballots. Personally, I think that keeping vote totals secret until they are final helps discourage weighted ballots.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.

I agree with that.

Good point.

I think you and Roy are right on the regular season ballots. Playoffs since its a binary vote I don't think its as big an issue.

Devil's advocate:  That would mean that GMs would have to do twice as much work to vote, essentially being asked to send in ballots four days a week instead of two.  Since people were so uncommitted this year, is it reasonable to expect that we'd get more of a commitment by asking them to do more work?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd rather have public voting for the 1-15 round, and private voting for the playoffs.

I can tell you that without knowing what the vote was, it meant people weren't scrounging for votes. It was more dignified.

But the 1-15 ballots is where the calculated ballots were more of an issues.

I liked the uncertainty of the private vote but the extra step has to be considered as being a reason for the low turnout. If there was a hybrid way of doing it in which, I don't know just throwing stuff off the wall, people would vote privately but every 2-3 hours the commish posts the score of the vote and which members voted, though not necessarily their vote, it would give owners an idea where they stand and who they need to lobby for votes with.

Yeah, I know, more commissioner work. That's really not fair to the commish. It's a tough enough job without having to add more to do. But I loved Faf's idea of HCA deciding ties in the playoffs, it makes the regular season voting even more meaningful, as everyone can now see. And the tie breakers for the regular season went well.

I think the other thing is this would have a much better turnout if we kept it all in August. It's just THE deadest month of the NBA season and September brings about a lot of stuff like people back to school, usual upticks in seasonal businesses and a major traveling holiday.

If there was a way to do the draft in the first 2 week of August, pressers in the 3rd week, and playoffs in the last two weeks leading up to Labor Day, I think we would have a lot more interest being held.

Also, I think something more concrete should be put together regarding trade vetoes. Abolish them except for only the most blatantly egregious attempts to manipulate the game(Chris Paul for Von Wafer or a top 10 first rounder for a 5th and a 9th rounder, you know what I mean)or have something a bit more definitive in place regarding rulings. Perhaps commissioner's corrective action regarding trades. All trades are approved but if after reviewing the trade at the end of the round the commissioner feels the trade needs adjusting he moves a draft pick or player from one team to another. Perhaps it's a three person board with the commish included that does this. Again, just throwing out ideas.

Lastly, something more concrete needs to be done about abandoned teams. Don't know exactly. Of course, find another owner but if one can't be, something needs to be in place in the rules regarding that.

I think the increased level of participation keeps interest up, and makes things that much more fun.

See, I think lobbying is the least fun part of this game. People should vote based on how they feel and their connection to the game, and for the most part they do, and I'm not sure hype posts do much to change that. I tend to negatively connect teams with owners who are egregiously lobbying for their teams.

I disagree. Even though I'm terrible at it, responding to questions about strategy and matchup is what I find to be the most intersting.
