Another consideration, Dampier gives them another big body in case of injury.

Right now the Heat are thin when it comes to size beyond Bosh.

If he goes to the Heat instead of somewhere else for more minutes/money I'm definitely down on beating the Heat this year....

Yeah, unfortunately Dampier is the perfect type of player for them.  Good defense, good rebounding, a mean streak, no ego.

While they'd be better with Damp than with who they have now, he is so incredibly poor defensively (esp. on rotations and help) that I'd throw a signing party in Boston for him going to Miami.  The only thing is that his hands are still good enough to catch and score unopposed down low, which will make it harder to help off of him.  But good defense--not in years, if ever.

I think you're totally wrong on this one.  Dampier is a good defender, and a very good rebounder.
Yep.  Good defender and rebounder.  And he's physically strong and tough.  I was counting on being able to bully Miami's front line.  Dampier won't be bullied.

His lateral quickness is gone.  He can stand there and defend, like a tree, but moving the ball around a little bit will get him stuck in no man's land rather easily.

smart move for Dampier if he does it.  best shot at a title he'll get in what little playing time he has left.

I agree - but I hope a team (like the Cavs, for instance) who basically has no starting center makes him a 3X bigger offer than the Heat can, so we can see if money > the chance at a title in South Beach...

What about the Hawks? Did they sign anyone after they gave up on getting Shaq?

Josh Powell was the only guy I saw  on the website I just googled. I think they did go with someone else though.

I hope someone else gives him a lot of money.

He would become their starting C.  Some real defensive beef to go next to Bosh.  A big body to throw at the other top team with size (Boston, Orl, Lakers)

That's how I feel.  Here's to him signing with another squad for more money.

Looks like Dampier is signing with the Heat. Great. That team, as currently constituted, has no weakness.

A front court of Bosh/Dampier/Anthony/Haslem/Big Z? That is more than enough to compliment LeBron and Wade....factor in Mike Miller, that's a great team (on paper).

Well, let's hope the Dampier haters are correct.  I think Miami made itself stronger today.

Still not ready to hand over the Eastern crown to them.

Ugh.....

Well there goes my hope that front court depth would kill them.

I think the two best players in the league will work out how to share the ball and dominate effectively.

Nice signing. Gives them a bit more depth.

I hope they choose to start J.Anthony though. I greatly like the blend of skill and athleticism of that potential lineup.

Dampier will be very useful when they need a bigger body and more rebounding though.
