If Chicago does the deal before extending Noah, there's a chance Noah won't want to re-sign with Denver.  Would the Celtics have a shot at getting Noah?  I want Noah on the Celtics so bad.  I love the way he plays.

Are you kidding me. Noah is one of the players Celtics fans should hate the most. If he becomes a Celtic, this world will end.

they way he plays.....not only would he be a great fit.....he will without a doubt be a fan favorite!

Articles like this one remind me an awful lot of the articles that talked about Chicago's "great young core" and argued against trading Hinrich or Deng for Pau Gasol.  How'd passing on that deal work out for Chicago?

When you can trade for a superstar, and don't have to give up a superstar in the process, you should do it.

I really think that in order for Anthony to end up in Chicago that a third team will need to get involved. What's the sense of moving Anthony to take on 4 years of a hefty contract if you are Denver.

Yes, Noah would be perfect as he is cheap for at least one year but $13 million a year for Deng is no way to start rebuilding. He would need to be shipped elsewhere with either a trade exception or a player on a one to two year deal going to Denver.

My guess is Noah, Gibson and picks would have to go to Denver, Deng to someone else and that other team sending someone or something Denver wants to Denver.

Toronto and Cleveland both have sizeable TEs to take on Deng, and both teams have a burning need for a bona fide SF.

{Edit: forgot Kleiza was in Toronto. Less incentive for the Raps.}

I would definitely do it if I was Chicago, but I don't see it working out any better than the AI/Melo pairing. It also doesn't help that both Rose and Anthony are ball stoppers. I say ECF tops second round exit being the most likely scenario.

Completely agree.  Players that Celtics fans love to hate would, on average, be great to have in green: Noah, Varejao, Hinrich, Kobe ...  (there are exceptions, though, such as Quentin Richardson).

In all seriousness, while Kobe would be unattainable, players like Noah, Varejao and Hinrich top my list of players that would be great 6th man type players in Boston.
Celtics fan for life.

I've said this a few times before, but if Carmelo ends up in the Eastern conference then the East could end up being the more dominant conference for the next few seasons. The Magic, Celtics, Hawks, Heat, the Knicks, and whichever team Carmelo was traded to (if it wasn't one of the aforementioned teams) would all be playoff-level teams, similar to all of the quality teams in the top 8 of the Western conference. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, or that I don't want to see Carmelo in the East -- in fact I would be in favor of the East becoming the more dominant conference like they were during the 90's when the East won the Finals 7 times.

If the question was whether or not the Bulls, after adding Carmelo would be a threat to win it all, I'd still say that it depends, but either way it doesn't hurt the Bulls franchises' legacy to add an all-star scoring specialist to their roster as Carmelo would likely be the most talented scorer to play for them since Jordan retired. Now I'm not trying to compare 'Melo to 5-time NBA MVP Michael Jordan (heck, Jordan is going to be on the cover of NBA2K11, and not 'Melo, despite the fact that MJ has been retired since 2003) however you certainly don't have to have a sort of 're-incarnation' of Michael Jordan on your team in order to win an NBA championship, as these past 7 years of LeBron James basketball career have proved.

Completely disagree. Kobe would never be liked as a Celtic. Coming from a die hard fan, he is my most hated athlete in the world. I also wouldn't want any goofballs with floppy hair on my team because that would ruin the chemistry. hence varejina and noah.

I couldn't root for Kobe, but I think a lot of Celtics fans would.

I wouldn't have any problem with Varejao, and I think I'd like Noah on the court and hate him off it (he's got way too big a mouth).

I'd love Melo and actually woulnd't mind Deng.  I just don't think we have the pieces (or salary) to make something happen for either of those guys.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench -

I agree with other than Deng could be a deal-killer.  Not exactly the way to start a rebuilding effort.

I also question the need to deal Carmelo.  I imagine no matter what happens with a lockout, the players are ultimately going to lose money-making opportunities.  However, like with the last couple of CBA's, there likely will be some provision "grandfathering" veterans in.  For instance, when they capped player salaries in the late '90s, players making more than that could keep their old salaries and still make a certain % raise on that salary on a new deal.

Thus, if the Nuggets hold on to Carmelo, Carmelo may face something like a raise on 17 million dollars (and more raises on that over the course of a new deal) vs. a deal starting much lower than that and unable to rise up as much.

I wonder if the Nuggets will call his bluff.  He's not the global force LeBron is and while I could see him walking away from a few million, I don't see him giving up tens of millions of dollars.

As a diehard Celtics fan - I'm sick of the East getting harder. Let some superstars go out West and challenge the Lakers!!!! Stay out west Carmelo, Stay out West!
I could care less about the EAST winning the title 7 years straight. What did that do for the Boston Celtics??? absolutely nothing!
Now if Carmelo decided to go to a team in the West with talent, such as Portland or OKC, (i don't know of any viable trade scenarios) then okay, do it! But in all likelyhood, what good does it do to have Carmelo in the East but make it harder for the C's?
