The reason we are going to be so tough to beat is because if you watch this video, Shaq will demand the double team, Against almost every team in the league. Where he can pass out and our we have the shooters that will knock down shots. Check this video out. Will help the ones who think shaq is done and for those like me, It just makes us that more confident!

He's still a great scorer.  It's amazing that he barely comes off his toes on a lot of those dunks.  The man is enormous.

You know, I'm really excited about Shaq - he's going to be on a redemption farewell tour, so I expect big things, but even more importantly, think about how many times Rondo or Garnett would make a wonderful inside pass to a wide-open Perk, only to have Perk "gather" the ball and get blocked? With Shaq, those little drop down passes will turn into dunks. I mean, the guy doesn't even have to jump to dunk it. This is going to be awesome!

Having Delonte aboard, in my opinion, makes Shaq even more valuable.  Shaq's in the middle, surrounded on the perimeter with Delonte and Wafer.  Nate could be in the place of Delonte, although he's a streakier shooter.

Could maybe run a small-ball lineup with Delonte/Wafer/Ray Allen - three guys who you can't leave alone.

We've got three good choices for power forwards who can hit the elbow jumper - KG, JO, and BBD.  Probably KG, since he can help cover for Shaq's slowness on the defensive end.

Toss the ball in to Shaq, if they double him Shaq's been one of the best in the league for his whole career at passing out of the double team and getting the ball to the open man.  There will be four guys on the floor who can hit a jump shot.  If they don't double-team him...  well, a lot more often than not, that's two points.

I don't see Shaq on the floor with Rondo a lot, he will tend to clog the middle - but we've got enough shooters to surround him where I really think Shaq could be a difference maker in the second unit.

I mean, really...  WHAT backup center is going to be able to defend Shaq one-on-one?

Shaquille O'Neal with the Cavs just seems like vintage Shaq to me. Perfect balance of size, power, veteran post-moves and court awarness combined with a line-up that compliments all of Shaqs strengths as well as downplays his weaknesses. It's almost no wonder how the Cavaliers were able to lead the league in scoring for the second consecutive season; last year they had arguably the best line-up of bigs and as a result had the option of going to the rim almost every possession which really took the pressure off of their perimeter shooters. Even LeBron, during his earlier years with the Cavs was known to score the majority of his points in the paint so for him to have the insurance of being able to go to Shaq as well as take it to the rim on his own meant alot of easy looks for the Cavs.

Watching the Celtics this season should be a blast knowing that if Shaq starts then all five of our starters have been selected to the NBA All-Star team at one point during their careers. It might not be too big of a stretch for us to expect 3 or more of our guys to make the All-Star team again this upcoming season. Last year Paul Pierce won the 3-point contest, and Nate Robinson (while still with the New York Knicks) won the dunk contest for the third time in his career. Garnett started in the All-star game, and Rondo was a reserve on the East and a contestant in the NBA horse contest.  :P

If we win plenty of games early in the season the Celtics might end up being the team to watch...

It's hilarious watching him block shots.  He's so strong that a lot of the time he doesn't just block the ball - he blocks the player, too.

It cracks me up watching Bosh trying to guard Shaq.  Miami better hope those two are never matched up in the post.

I think as long as Eddie Lacerte doesn't have to much to do this year we will all be partying in the streets of Boston next summer.

First round is on me...if we can find a place selling cheap beer lol!  :P

yup yup! i believe in Shaq! he owns some starters and he will definitely own all bench bigs! it's interesting to see how divided this board initially was over signing Shaq but now it seems like everyone's aboard.

Haha - The Big Shamrock even has some Chief in him - notice the Spin Move at 2:12. That move was one of Robert Parish's patented faves.

  • Rondo = Good
There's no question the Celtics are extremely talented when all are healthy and at full energy / effort.

But with a team full of old vets like ours, how many nights in the regular season will they be operating at full energy, healthy, and effort?  How many of our players will be at that level for the playoffs?

That's the key question of the upcoming season (as it was this last season, too).

Shaq doesn't change any of that, though he certainly makes our team more exciting if the "Diesel" is firing on all cylinders, so to speak.
