“Rajon came to us and said he was going to withdraw from the team, that he had some family matters to attend to and some things to take care of before the NBA season. He did an outstanding job during our training, we appreciate the effort and commitment he made to our program and he completely has our support," said Colangelo.

Didnt see it posted yet, but that's kind of sad. I had wanted to see him try and win in the world championships. Sounds like he voluntarily bowed out. Pretty sure he didn't just get cut outright, especially after how Coach K just raved about him.

He'll still be plenty young for London '12, Worlds '14, and even Rio '16.

Sad to hear but he'll have other opportunities.

I'm sure the speculation is going to be that he's leaving over the DNP, and/or worries that he was going to be cut.  I hope that's not the case.  At the same time, I hope it's not the case that he's having serious family issues.

Could easily be a PR move for Team USA instead of cutting him.

Or it could be that Rondo really does have something at home to take care of. I'm sad he won't be playing I'll be a lot less interested in the games now.

We all know Rondo can be a little hard-headed and stubborn at times but I really don't think him getting a DNP would irk him that bad. All we've heard about is how amazing Rondo has been for Team USA.

But yea, hopefully everything turns out well with his family. (There were reports of him leaving a week or so ago, too.)

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
My guy reaction is that he's too proud to be cut.

Hopefully his family is okay, and this creates a burning in his belly that only dozens of triple double games can alleviate.

It is too bad. Team USA with Rondo was holding me over in between summer league and the reg season. I guess I'll still watch but I wont go out of my way.

Yeah I do think that Coach K likes him and I don't see why USA basketball wouldn't allow him to resign rather than cut him.

Kinda glad. He needs some rest big time. He played a ton of minutes this season. Even if he is young still took a beaten. Needed to get back and work out with some of his new teamates too. Kinda glad he did this.

I'm blanking on this, but didn't he leave and come back for some reason a week or two ago?

And he turned down an invite from Team USA last summer because he was going to be in Perk's wedding, so I don't think it would necessarily be life or death.

Yeah, Rondo had to go to his uncle's funeral, or some family member's, not certain. But that was a family issue, too.

If it's true he turned down a Team USA invite last season cause of Perk's wedding, then yeah, I don't think there's much more to look into then that.

I doubt he was getting cut.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Hope everything is well with Rondo. I don't believe for a second that Rondo was going to get cut. Although I'm sure plenty others do. IMO, Team USA just got a lot worse. Not 1 pass first point guard on a team that has no ball movement.

It might not get reported for a while, but to me it's pretty clear Rondo bumped heads with Coach K and lost.

USA basketball likes to think they've solved the reasons why they keep failing in international competition, but when push comes to shove they keep putting out All-Star teams who can't play together as a team.  Installing Rose and Westbrook at point is the latest indication that they don't know what they're doing in terms of team-building and now we're going to be treated to isolation-laden "USA" basketball that won't get the job done (again).

On a team bursting with talent, scoring, and ego, you need a few role players with high IQ and low EGO to make things run smoothly.  Rondo was THAT guy--he's the best role player in the game.  Players listened to him and he was very adept at losing himself in the team concept and playing winning basketball.  Now we have the modern-day equivalents of Stephon Marbury and Stevie Francis running the show and we're going to have about ZERO leadership or BBIQ out there when the game gets close.  Isolating Rose at the top of the key may work once against Spain in a meaningless exhibition game, but we're going to be in for a surprise if we try to ride that game plan all the way to gold.  And by cutting Rondo, we've pretty much limited ourselves to that kind of team....
Folly. Persist.

I think it was a PR move too.

I doubt he was getting cut.

Why so?  Last night Rondo mentioned that he felt he might be the one to be cut.
