I'm disappointed, my roommate is a huge Derrick Rose fan so now he can use this against me, but whatever. I really just liked watching him play with all these young guys, and I was looking forward to the world championships. I'll still watch, but I won't care nearly as much as I would if Rondo were playing.

My question is, what the heck happened in the last week? He went from Coach K favorite to seemingly in his doghouse. Sure, he had that one bad game against Lithuania, but its not like the other point guards hadn't had an off game before. Billups played horribly in that game, Rose didn't really show up until the Spain game, and Wesbrook only started playing well when people started talking about him getting cut. Curry can shoot, but he turns the ball over half the time he tries to pass it.

Why did one bad game, and then a seemingly harmless DNP basically force Rondo out of the picture? It puzzles and angers me at the same time, because I wanted to see our boy represent the US in international play and all he got was a couple of measly exhibition games. Oh well...

The point guards were always going to be inconsistent due to their lack of overall court time + lack of consistent minutes + and minutes spent playing out of position at shooting guard.

Rondo was going to get cut. Personally, I would've cut Westbrook or Curry. But I can understand why Rondo was 'allegedly' cut considering he was the worst Shooter on that team. Can he even be considered a shooter, Rondo is a non-shooter. Rondo makes Lamar Odom look like Ray Allen. Unless if he fixes that black-hole, Rondo will always be looked down upon. Its gives guys like Tony Parker ammo to slander him.

Dam, I hate Mr. longoria.

Its now or never for Rondo in Year #5.

I watch the one game agains't Lithuania and it was apprent that the US teams entier game was shooting from the outside. Since Rondo can't shoot very well fron there I guess he just didn't fit.
That being said, I don't see this as being build as a team that will win. They are just a jump shooting team, and didn't look that good at that. I think Rondo will be missed but I can see how, if this is how they are going to play, Rose, Westbrook and Curry all fit better.

When the defense can sag off your PG the way they can with Rondo, it causes problems.  It makes team defense a whole lot easier.

Yeah, and a team full of isolation scorers, bad shooters, and no true point guard is pretty easy to defend too, especially in crunch time.  The makeup of this team made it easy to defend BEFORE Rondo was cut, now it's only gotten easier.  This team is going to do down in a flame of isolation plays and contested jump shots.
Folly. Persist.

Are there even any Celtic fans on this board? Rondo was the main reason we made it to a game seven. He may have been the leading rebounder. How many clutch shots did he hit for this team? Lets get CP3 he will save us. Pathetic......

I'm only going to echo the folks that say "thank goodness he is getting to rest now".

Here's hoping he gets all of his family stuff in order and continues to improve like he has every year of his career so far.  We all know the shot needs improvement and I know that he is quite aware as well.

If he left because he didn't want to get cut I'd be disappointed. That shows a little bit of a quitter mentality. I hope that this isn't the case. I am very surprised that he would be considered behind Westbrook though. He is a solid player, but not that good. Rose I could understand. Go ahead and slam me if you want but I would trade Rondo straight across for Rose without thinking twice. He's a better overall player. Curry we all know isn't a better player, but an unreal shooter. They need guys who can knock down that outside shot and he is one of the best pure shooters around. I understand that move as well. He's trying to field a team, not an All-Star game roster.

Rondo is the better defender passer and rebounder while taking about seven less shots a game. Most PG lists disagree as well.

This is what D. Angie had to say:

“It’s a different style of play, different people around him. He certainly showed what he’s capable of doing on that team. The team is loaded with point guards. I know that initially Rajon was not really overwhelmed with the opportunity. It was not something that he was thrilled with doing. It was something that he did because he was kind of being told it was the right thing to do by those trying to get him to do it. But it wasn’t something that he was dying to do. So I’m not surprised. And I’m happy to see him finish the summer experience being healthy.

Hmm I don't get it. So if he didn't want to play in the first place, then what was he doing there?

Either way am sure he got some good experience playing with diff players and under a different coaching staff, but it all comes back to show how important it is for Rondo to improve his shooting. Hope he uses this as a motivation and really works hard toward getting a jump shot.

Yep, this reaffirms it. Rondo got the pink slip. Not a biggie.

I'm sure the speculation is going to be that he's leaving over the DNP, and/or worries that he was going to be cut.  I hope that's not the case.  At the same time, I hope it's not the case that he's having serious family issues.
I mean isnt it obvious thats the reason? Theres no twisting it around if he was in rotation in Spain and felt he wasnt on the bubble like he stated WHY would he just resign?

My guy reaction is that he's too proud to be cut.

Hopefully his family is okay, and this creates a burning in his belly that only dozens of triple double games a championship can alleviate.

Fixed.

So I guess it was a cut over his shooting...I guess you are able to skirt by as a pg without being able to pass, though. USA is going to be screwed now...out of the medals, imo.

Bad move by team USA.  Rondo was the best point guard on that team and for that team. I think Danny is right.  Rondo wasn't completely on board with doing it, but did it because everyone was telling him too.

As for Rondo leaving because family matters I think that was only part of it.  I think the DNP and being on the bubble was the real reason that he left because if the family matters were the main reason he wouldn't have gone back to the team after his Uncles death.

This was a mistake by team USA they now don't have a good true distributing pg except for Billups who is getting older and Curry who is being used for his spot up shooting.

I really don't understand at all why Rose was starting against Spain after Rondo had one bad game and didn't even get to play, when every game and practice I saw Rose play all up to the Lithuania game he did not look that good at all.

I think that Rondo's questioning of whether he really wanted to be on the team showed which lead to his DNP and being on the bubble.
