So I guess it was a cut over his shooting...I guess you are able to skirt by as a pg without being able to pass, though. USA is going to be screwed now...out of the medals, imo.

If Rondo was cut over his shooting that is a really bad reason.  We don't have a standout passer anymore like we did in '08.  Our best passer is pretty much Curry now and he is being used for his spot up shooting and three point shot on this team.  I still think we will win gold, but the path to getting there is going to be more difficult now.

Not a good move by Team USA at all.

Its a huge eyesore. You can't over look it. Team USA has enough I think to win it. The end results will be known in the near future.

In truth, team USA should be filled with passers at all positions, not just PG.

Having Rondo be the only good passer isn't enough.

FIBA ball is all about team ball and fundamentals.

I completely agree.  I'm not completely sold on how Coach K has put this team together, but I still think we bring home the gold.

Now the question is say we do win it all Team USA, will this effect Rondo in a bad way demoralizing him and dropping his confidence?

  • You say when......
I still like Rondo, this may make him work on his shot more..what else does he have to do...? But, i still like him the way he is. Team USA would have been nice, but we / he doesn't need it..better to be ready for our season...!

I think it will only make him more motivated.

Ugh, depressing news.  At least now I don't have to root for the US to take home the gold.

SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas

What's depressing to me is that Rondo is going into his 5th year and hasn't improved his shot all that much. He basically got cut because of it. :(

Are there even any Celtic fans on this board? Rondo was the main reason we made it to a game seven. He may have been the leading rebounder. How many clutch shots did he hit for this team? Lets get CP3 he will save us. Pathetic......

No...most of us bleed Green like Hollywood movie monsters and also got physically sick when the Celtics lost in game 7.  We also take time out of our lives to pour out or thoughts, hearts, and souls out on a daily basis talking about the Celtics...but we are not fans at all  ::)

We all understand what Rondo means to the Celtics he was the MVP for the Celtics last year.  But this thread is about Rondo and Team USA.

Having said that...from what we are speculating they didn't think he was a good fit for Team USA.

As Celtic Fans we all know his flaws.  His jump shot is suspect and he a bad FT shooter.

These are facts, there are stats and film to back all this up.  Team USA wanted to go a different direction.

Do I like it...No.  But I do understand.

This news shouldn't be depressing to anyone.

Rondo can now rest up for the NBA season.

If anything, Rondo should be playing pick up games with the rest of the Celtics and his new teammates.

We hear this over and over again.  Rondo makes 50% of his freaking shots...And seems to hit jumpers when it counts.  The free throw shooting is the only thing that depresses me.

But I couldn't be happier that he's gone from the glorified pickup game.

I love Rondo, but i'm not buying the "family issues" thing.   He fell to 3rd in the depth chart behind Rose and Westbrook... got butthurt and quit.

Should be motivation to work on his shot.  In International play, point guards need to be able to shoot.

What's depressing is that we won't get to see Rondo play any more this summer.  Very little is depressing about the player: he's the best NBA pg on the team USA roster.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler
