Shaq is 100% done as a positive difference-maker. In fact, he makes you a worse team when he's on the floor than if you'd just played a role player who defends a little better.
Not much different from what I've been saying all week.

Non-great minds think alike.

Just to clarify, a positive difference maker from me is someone who can give you strong ~20 minutes without setting the team back. Based on what I saw from the Cavs last season, I don't think Shaq is that person. Contributor? Sure. Difference-maker? Not by a long shot.

Says the guy who wanted to get Brian Freakin' Skinner instead of Shaq.

Time to stop the bickering, guys.  It's gotten a bit too personal.

I apologize if I've gotten a little too snippy.  It's a bad habit of mine.

Perkins is not worth more than the full MLE. The fact is that he has barely improved, if at all, since he signed his last contract. If Miami signs him, I can't say I'll be disappointed. Perkins is not rebuilding material.

Shaq, in the role he will likely be asked to play come playoff time, will be great.

He will be the 2nd teams go to guy on the low post.  He will be asked to defend the worst offensive big man with the good defenders on this team (Perk, KG and O'Neal.2)

I really want to see Boston go big in the playoffs against Miami in a 7 game series when KG comes out.  I think Perk (if healthy) can defend Bosh as a PF.  Make Bosh feel like he is a C again.  Beat on him.

He may not be, but is Perk really so much different than guys like Brendan Haywood, Sam Dalembert, Andris Biedrins, Erick Dampier, etc., etc.  None of those guys is a building blocked (although Biedrins looked like he could be for awhile), but all are making well more than the MLE.

If you're a big man you get paid in the NBA.

If you're a big man and you have an elite level skill, just one will do, you get paid a lot.

Perkins is an elite post defender, and a plus defender overall. Meanwhile he's servicable with the rest of the game. He'll get paid over the MLE.

Looking at Shaq's +/- in Cleveland - in a vacuum - tells a negative story - he cost the offense 6 points per 100 possessions, and was neutral on defense.

Putting those numbers in context, however, tells a different story.

When Shaq was off the court, Varejao was on. That puts the ball exclusively in Lebron's hands. Lebron is better at offense than Shaq... mystery solved.

The flip side is, Cleveland's defense did not see any noticable decline in efficency when Shaq was on the floor. Varejao is considered a very strong defender. This is a good story.

Finally, the biggest difference between Shaq's next season and his the previous two will be his competition - he will be defending and dunking on second teamers next season.
"All I have to know is, he's my coach, and I follow his lead. He didn't have to say anything in here this week. We all knew what we had to do. He's a big part of our family, and we're like his extended family. And we did what good families do when one of their own is affected." - Teddy Bruschi

It's never been a mystery, really. It simply boils down to whether one thinks that Rondo, Pierce, Allen or Garnett are better offense then Shaq.

Shaq has plenty left in the tank. All you have to do is look at our playoff series with Cleavland. Most nights he was their best player and scored over 20 points in a couple of games.

Everyone wants to highlight Shaqs deficencies

He isn't a perfect fit, but he provides a paint game including rebounding.

Prior to the Shaq signing I thought you said no one should have a problem bringing Shaq on board for the minimum? If he is a problem, you cut him.

But yet ever since, all you've done is rip the guy multiple times per day.

There have been times when the Celtics have looked lost on offense, going on jump shooting scoring droughts. It'll be nice to throw the ball into the post a little more during those droughts.

(this wasn't as bad in the playoffs when KG and RW got their butts in the paint a little more - but it was still an issue)

Of course he's improved since he signed his contract. That's nonsense. Put him on the Heat and their biggest weakness goes away. They'd be much less vulnerable than they are (or might be) now.
