Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm not syaing Shaq has no motivation, he does play hard when he plays.

Howwever, what "could" be different here in Boston is that this will be the first time since playing with Kobe that he will be pairing up with a personality as intense and dedicated as Kobe always has been, in the form of KG. LeBron doesn't scare that, and I dont' think Wade does either.

LeBron and Wade arent' old intense like KG and Kobe, it's different.

So now Shaq walks into Boston with not just one KG, but then he's got Pierce and Ray, arguably from reports some of the most dedicated guys in the game as well. The you have Rondo, who's no wall flower.

If Shaq engages with these guys and buys in, don't be suprised to see him somehwat reborn, maybe dropping some what as the season goes on and becoming more effective.

But coming back to KG? That guy will absolutely get into anyone's head, you can't help but be affected by it.

And if KG's is more removed from his injury, he may become an animal again, especially if we keep him around 30 minutes a night all season.

i think KG's effect will be negligible on Shaq. I mean, he'll be more intense but that's more because of the established culture (fine, that KG started). there were only 2 teams in the league anyway last season that had our "intense" culture. Us and LA (thanks to Kobe).

I think Shaq was motivated in Phx. He was just a horrible fit.

While Perk is out, we need someone like Shaq since we haven't picked up anyone else. He will also get enough minutes without Perk around to be happy.

I will wait to see what the chemistry ends up like.

Our whole front court has something to prove.

Garnett:

KG wants to prove that after a full year of recovery, he can return to his former dominance.

J.O.:

Jermaine wants to prove that last year’s playoff performance was a fluke due to injuries.

Shaq:

self explanatory.

Perkins:

Perk wants to get back to the finals and prove that he was the difference.

I can't remember how many times I saw the other 4 Celts walking up the floor with their heads down after Kendrick Perkins tried 6 upfakes before then finally losing the ball off his foot.
I can't remember either. It must have been about 5 times for the whole season.

I can't wait to watch them play together.  I hope it's not like last year when Sheed and KG hardly ever seemed to play together.

KG's outside game should fit perfectly with Shaq's post game.  And J.O. should be a nice fit with Shaq too.

Are we jumping the gun here?  Any chance he backs out of this and signs with the Lakers and laughs at us?

This has been posted elsewhere; but KG is an unselfish player and so is Shaq. There are few teams in the NBA that can play Shaq 1 on 1. We were one of them. If you double Shaq, the shooters we have are bound to have a field day. He will need to be more assertive on setting picks and making rotations on D; however if he can do this we will he ahead of the game.

However, I do have questions about how it will go down once Perk comes back and once the playoffs roll around.

I know that I am stating the obvious, but I think that getting Shaq here and playing effectively is the first step we need to take.

Worrying about what the minutes will be once (IF, IF, IF)Perk comes back and can even play effectively at all this year can wait. Irrespective of the self-reporting by Perk on his ahead of schedule recovery process, there is no guarantee that he will be effective at all this coming year.

I'm not worried about Shaq's usage or anyone's feeling being hurt.  I'm a bit worried generally about Shaq's persona.....he's always been one of my least favorite personalities, boorish, immature, self centered, etc...

BUT:  I think we've got some of the strongest personalities in the league on our team.....I think Doc, the big 3, Rondo and Celtics' mystique can get Shaq to morph into a team-centered beast.  Even guys like Nate and Baby with their electric-type energy can help.  It's going to be a bit circus-like.  I think Doc and the rest can pull this off....

Does anyone know anything at all about KG and Shaq's offcourt relationship, acquaintanceship, etc....I can't picture them having a single thing to bond over....Luckily, they mainly just have to bond on the court....And for all I know they already do have decent off-court chemistry.....Just that I can't picture that chemistry.  They seem like polar opposites.

TP, Scoobs.

Plus - has Shaq ever played with a PF as unselfish as KG? Not in LA, ORL, PHX or CLE. KG made every center he played with better, and he'll do the same with Shaq and J.O, too.

Perk (and Rasho Nesterovic in Minny) was the recipient of many good looks from KG over the years, and Shaq (and J.O.) will be no different.

More importantly, KG does not occupy the same real estate on the court that Shaq does ... Shaq occupies the low post - for 15-20 minutes a night, this is a no brainer

Good Point.

KG (and J.O. as well as Glen), have decent mid-range J's. Shaq roams near the paint. In a matchup with LA, KG will draw Gasol out from the basket, leaving Bynum to try to deal with Shaq.

Same scenario with ORL - KG - Rashard Lewis..Dwight - Shaq or J.O.

Plus - J.O. can play some PF, which mixes it up for us really well.

MIA has a problem if Shaq is in fact coming here - Bosh will have his hands full with KG..leaving Z or Joel Anthony to keep Shaq off the boards? Only way I see MIA having a shot is on offense - both Z and Bosh prefer to take J's. They'd better hope they hit them, because there won't be many second chance opportunities out there with our new Bigs.

i like shaq to be the starting center. he puts people into foul trouble early especially when opponent's bigs get late on defensive rotations (rondo & KG drop passes). like to see gasol, bynum,& dwight in foul trouble early.
