I accelerate my motorcycle to 120mph for short bursts.  I don't think I'm a bad guy and I don't think I should have a gun drawn to my head if I get pulled over.

reactions are too far one way or the other...

fact: i believe over 90 is reckless driving in most states, so when you drive 130 in a tinted out Benz, you're going to have a gun drawn on you.

fact: if this is the dumbest thing Evans does, he's going to be a very good player for years to come. in a seperate thread today we're talking about a guy who just won an NBA championship after years of playing drunk and punching out fans in the stands of Detroit.

seriously who cares? when Delonte was pulled over mariachi-style, we all thought it was "sad" because he's got BPD and he's a former Celtic who we like. but which was dumber? Mr. West, clearly....

I'm sorry but this just doesn't rank that high on the dumb list....

I think this is dumber.  How often do we hear about gun fights on the road vs. terrible crashed created by speeding and racing?

Do I think he is an awful person I would want off my team?  No.

Do I think he is a moron right now?  Yes.

Does he deserve the negative response he is receiving right now?  You better believe it.

How dumb can Evans be?  You have money.  Go pay to race somewhere that will not put others in danger.  To often, this can happen

As for the police and guns, pull them.  They were dealing with two guys that clearly showed no care about human life.  For the police, who knows what else these guys might do.

Don't want to deal with that, don't race on the highway at 130 MPH.

Yes, Evans was stupid, but by the time he got pulled over it doesn't appear that he was presenting an active danger to anyone, including the police.

Keep your guns in your holsters, cowboys, unless absolutely neccessary.  In this case, guns were not neccessary.

Just about every time a cop gets shot after a chase, it is when the car has already stopped.

They did what they are trained to do.  I have no issue.

If you don't want to have this happen to you, don't go 130 MPH.

How can someone defend going 130 MPH for several minutes weaving in and out of lanes?

How can someone disagree with the police reaction? The driver could have easily been armed and tried to pull a fast one. They didn't use unnecessary force or anything on him.

what Delonte did wasn't due to being dumb, it was due to having paranoid thoughts from being bipolar, which is a real, biological disease. That is a big difference. Evans was being an idiot racing his expensive sportscar and putting himself and many others at risk for his own personal enjoyment. As for Artest, he has had real psychiatric issues for a long time and got professional help to reach the point where he is today. Again, a very different case from Evans.

agreed, The police pulling guns is standard procedure in that type of situation. They have no idea who the driver is or why they were speeding, and many times the drivers react violently for a number of reasons. My cousin, a fat preppy white boy, had a gun pulled on him for doing 85 in NH because he pulled over to the left side of the highway from his fear instead of the right, and I had no problem with the cop pulling a gun on him there either.

A) Driving a nice car (which was designed to go this speed and more i might add) very fast while never really coming anywhere near wrecking in broad daylight sober without weapons and without a cop anywhere in sight before pulling off the highway and driving completely rationally;

B)Swerving violantly on the most dangerous vehichle in the world -- a three-wheeled motorcyle -- at night with guns and knives strapped all over one's body including a shotgun in a guitar case thrown over your back as your followed by cops;

You'd take A? Which would you take if you were a GM?

Look i really don't care, but i think the soapbox here often gets a bit ridiculous on this stuff. I'm sure no one on this blog has ever done something stupid, or even gotten cuffed -- nor would have if they were 20 and had far too much money handed to them at that age. If I'm this guys GM -- or even his dad -- I'm [peeved] but ackowledge to myself it could have been much much worse.

Part of the reason that guns are drawn in this case is due to the speed, which one poster said, and was correct by saying that it is considered criminal. Also, the windows were completely tinted, not able to see inside.

Although the officer drew his gun, it was mearly for his protection as he assesed the situation. He had the driver put both of his hands out the window, and open the door himself so that he did not have to get close (especially before back-up arrived). Once the other officer arrived, you notice that there was another person in the car (another reason guns being drawn because the first officer can only control one supspect at a time).

In this case, the officer did exactly as was trained. Based on the information given to him by the helicopter, he had to go into this interaction believing that this was a "criminal act" and thus he acted by pulling his gun out as a means of protection.

As for it taking so long to track the guy down...the helicopter was not going to let him get away. The only way they would be able to catch him, was if someone already ahead of him was available (you can't catch up to a 130mph from behind). The video was only like 10 minutes before he got off the highway, and once off the highway (where speeds were managable where police could catch up) it took less than a minute.

All in all, this is great police work when you truly look at it from all angles.

i'm going to just leave this thread at this point, but just wanted to let you know that i'm highly familiar with bipolar disorder.

althetes are doing a lot of very dumb stuff these days, some of which are trashing their respective sports -- driving their cars too fast doesn't rank very high on my list, particularly when the car in question really doesn't have a problem handling the speed applied and they're not evading the authorities.

while I agree that it's not on the top of the list of bad things athletes have done recently, just because your car can handle high speeds doesn't in any way at all justify driving it at 130 mph and endangering the lives of other people. It only takes one idiot or distracted driver to make a wrong move into the lane of the speeding car to cause a major, multiple car wreck, no matter how well the car can handle or how good the driver is. That's why we have speeding laws to begin with.

1. when you're going 130 MPH, you're always a quarter second from wrecking. Don't kid yourself. The slightest slip and you're dead.

2. It is not "driving rationally" to go 130 mph.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

If I get stopped for jaywalking, I guess you could say that I could easily be armed, and a policeman would be within his rights to draw his fireman and aim it at me for his own protection.

People are potentially dangerous, to be sure, but the police are supposed to be trained to use their best judgment and not pull out their weapons unless they or others are in danger.  Based on what I could see in this video, the cops over-reacted.

Maybe Tyreke should go talk to Bobby Phills.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class
