Scal has to be one of the most likable guys in the whole NBA.  His knowledge of the game exceeds his skills, though.  Actually, there are probably quite a few people in the NBA for whom the title "professional athlete" doesn't quite seem to fit, yet he usually manages to stay in front of his man and not do anything too stupid (occasional miscommunication on the inbounds pass notwithstanding).

So I really hope he gets a contract somewhere next year, and if we have a roster spot open at the start of camp, I bet he gets it.  Seriously, I don't know why Doc dressed Shelden ahead of Scal last year.  It makes no sense to me.  And minimize it all to Hades, but in those 10 seconds against Lamar in the finals, Scal showed some very fundamental bb skills that many more talented and athletic players simply don't respect the game enough to develop or even recognize.

But if we don't have the roster spot, which is fine with me, I really hope Danny gets on the phone to every GM and coach in the league and makes a pitch for the guy.  I think Jerry Sloan would absolutely love to have Scal on his team.  Actually, I now have an image in my mind of Sloan getting overexcited and humping Scal's leg.  Not sure why that just popped in there, but I'll probably never forget that image now.  Oh, crap...

While you may like Scal as a person, I like him more when he's not a member of my team.  I'd be OK with him as a volunteer assistant coach.

Argh.. there's alot of people who have fun with Scal but i might be one of the very few who will allways stand by the fact that Scal holds way more value to a team than can be messured on the basketball court.

He might be better off getting a assistant coaching job with the team but if that cant happen then i would like to see him fill the very last roster spot on our team

you really don't think Scal had friends among teammates he's been with for 3 years? I find that hard to believe, what's your basis?

I'd like to hear you explain a little deeper what you mean by that comment, because quite honestly the only thing that is even imaginable for you to be referring to is his skin color. A guy who is widely seen as a very nice guy, great teammate, hard worker, non-complainer, great community contributor doesn't seem like a guy who would have a hard time making friends. The only way that could be the case would be for all other members of the Celtics being the biggest pricks in the world. Some of them possibly are, but most are definitely good guys.

Why would you even throw something like that out? Very racist sounding comment that I am willing to bet you can't back up. That kind of comment has no place on this site IMO.

For me, personally - I hope he comes back.

When the man has been continually healthy - he's helped us over the last few years. It's been when he's hurt himself (especially with those concussions), that he's been rather ineffective.

He plays his role, and doesn't hurt us when he's in.

I remember one game last season in San Antonio - he was particularly effective in keeping Matt Bonner from torching us from beyond the 3-pt line.

As the 13th or 14th player? Sure I'd like him back.

EJ i know where your comming from but its equaly wrong to imply that he's talking in racists terms without knowing just what he means by his comment or if can back it up.

Potapenko Boxout has been here since 2007, so i think he knows the ropes by now but i do agree.. if its just a gut feeling he has then its a rather distastefull comment but we all do make ill advised comments from time to time.
