he's got talent but apparently, he's also got an attitude problem. reminds me of JR Smith. come to think of it, he's probably a poor man's JR Smith. I'd still look forward to a Rudy signing and getting Shaq though, if possible.

Von Wafer the rise of Taj.  Who is going to be Taj is the best question.

I think this means Rudy may not come here also probably nixes Eddie coming back (and I just read he signed with the HEAT)

Not sure about the signing. Even wanting to bring in Fernandez. We are full imo in the back end.

Why not give bradley a chance?

If we could combine this with Rudy it'd be huge. Ideally,this should really allow us to limit Paul and Ray's minutes during the regular season.

A lot of people dont seem to like this deal. I like it a lot. Could be a great spark off the bench, and is youth that can run out with Nate and Rondo. We need that. With his shooting along with nates. Then you can have Marquis strickly being a slasher. We could have a very nice bench. Still need a big.. Shaq anyone??

After reading through this entire thread here are my thoughts.
1. Von Wafer can shoot and is athletic, both good attributes for the bench.
2. Him paired with Nate will give us two good shooters and two fast players that can get out and run in the back court.
3. I believe that his stint in Greece followed by a ten day contract has humbled him.
4. If last year didn't humble him, the vets on this team will.
5. I think his better attitude and playing for this team will lead him to become a decent defender or never see the court.
6. This is a good signing IF we bring in another wing player or Bradley is ready to give us good bench minutes at the 2.
7. I am giving this signing an incomplete grade until I see what else happens. If we still do the Rudy trade this becomes a great move because we aren't relying on Von, the same can be said if we sign another decent wing. If we're relying on Von it makes me real nervous.

I think this is an okay depth signing (to fill the Finley role, for instance), but I don't like the idea of Marquis and Wafer being our two primary backup wings. 

Facing reality, it's very likely that Marquis will miss extended playing time this season; he's just a very fragile player.  Who becomes our backup SF in that instance?  6'5" Von Wafer?  Ray Allen, playing 40 minutes per game?  Luke Harangody, who isn't all that athletic for a PF, let alone a SF?  None is a terribly appealing option.

I see Wafer more as roster filler; we still need to address the first wing off the bench, in my opinion.

I like it a lot but I would still like to see a trade for Rudy and use a trio of Rudy/Daniels/Wafer at the 2-3. This gives us some pretty good depth.

My guess is that Von was plan B once they couldn't come to an agreement on a Rudy deal.  Hopefully they focus on getting another big now.  Personally, as entertaining as Shaq would be, I would rather have Kwame.

This is absolutely a valid concern. The problem is there aren't too many perimeter player with legitimate size and defensive capabilities out there. Rudy Fernandez is certainly not addressing this need.

The first wing off the bench will likely be Daniels. The perspective of acquiring anyone who's better fit for this role is bleak. The question is who's the third-string wing player/injury insurance, and it is increasingly likely that this position will be filled by Sims or Gaffney, unfortunately.

A lot of people don't believe this.

I think Doc should play Von Wafer a decent bit for the first few games, then reduce his minutes drastically to see how he reacts.  If Wafer can't handle that, then he doesn't belong on the Celtics.

Have not seen him play, but let me ask: Could Harangody back up Pierce at the 3? He seems like the right size. Does he lack the footwork?
