I have always discounted the first five.  They werent won in LA.  You dont here Baltimore Ravens fans bragging about the Cleveland Browns championships.

Or The Atlanta Braves bragging about the Mil. Braves World Series.  Or the Thunder bragging about the Supersonics title.
Then why are the majority of threads about Celtics v. Lakers on this forum so concerned about the fact that they're only one away now?  17-11 =/= 1...

I think this is bunk.  What about the Raiders?  Colts?  Both won championships in two cities.  Both recognize them all.

How many lakes are there in LA?
Wouldn't that further my argument?

Did they have victory celebrations in LA when Minny won the championships?  No, then you cant count them.  Thats the way it is.  If your fanbase didnt celebrate the wins you dont count them.
Whatever helps you sleep at night, I guess.  The majority of America considers this the Lakers' 16th championship.  I've honestly not seen "11th" written in print in an article that wasn't specifically highlighting this argument.

doesnt help me sleep at night.  17 titles help me sleep at night.  If you need the extra five so that you can still come up one short thats cool i guess.

Its the fact. The City of Los-Angeles has celebrated 11 championships. Meanwhile, the City of Boston has celebrated 17 championships. Can you debunk that?

Boston Celtics 17 Vs. Los-Angeles Lakers 11

I'm not a Lakers fan.  I'm a realist.  Do me a favor and compare the difference between the results when you google "Lakers win their 16th championship" vs "Lakers win their 11th championship".  What do you see?

Nope.  Did I ever say Los Angeles Lakers?

But the point is that the LA Lakers only have 11.  The Minny Lakers have 5.  So the scoreboard still reads

Boston Celtics 17
La Lakers 11

I think this is bunk.  What about the Raiders?  Colts?  Both won championships in two cities.  Both recognize them all.

The LOS ANGELES Lakers have 11. The MINNEAPOLIS Lakers have 5. So if you're going to make those 16 championship ****ing tshirts, you've got to say MINNEAPOLIS/LOS ANGELES. Take a hint from the Lakers Franchise when you go to the Staples Center Downtown (or does the bandwagon stop in Hollywood?) and you only see 11 banners hanging in the arena.

It's because those other 5 belong to the people of MINNESOTA who the Lakers Franchise won them 50 god**** years ago! Teams win championship for cities and the fanbase of those cities, that's the whole point of sports! You don't see the people of MINNESOTA celebrating when the Lakers win because that franchise now belongs to the city of LOS ANGELES. Hence why teams belong to cities in the first place!!

I've given this god**** example a zillion times and this is the last time I make it. People of Los Angeles, how would you like it if next year the Lakers moved to Las Vegas and won it all for the Franchises' 17th championship and some ***hole from Las Vegas comes up to you and says, "That's 17 *****! We have 17 ****ing NBA championships! We are the New York Yankees of ****ing basketball!!"?

Would that make sense to you? If you saw "LAS VEGAS LAKERS: 17 CHAMPIONSHIPS" tshirts and their ****ty fanbase was walking around thrusting their chests out like a bunch of god**** stupid apes? Cause that's you!

The people of Boston have celebrated all 17 times their team has won. How many times have the people of Los Angeles thrown rocks through windows and looted and burned down the city of Los Angeles?

So stop padding your ****ing resume like all you phony ****s do. You're a ****ing PA but by the time you've finished typing up your resume you ****ing directed the movie.

It's the reason why there is just no way to respect LOS ANGELES Lakers fans.

Honestly?

I hate them because they are so good, and have been our biggest threat over the years. No other team in history has challeneged our superiority as much as the Lakers, and no matter what people say, the team you hate the most is the one you fear the most.

They can never, and I mean NEVER, get as many championships as us, and whatever we have to do to prevent that, must be done without question.

The other stuff, like Kobe's sickening arrogance and ego, SV's attitude, Fish's dirty play, Jackson's air of superiority, Pau's llama face and nasty hair, Artest's moronic childish acts, their overly-obnoxious fans, those horrendous uniforms, endless flopping, the blatant preference from the league, all that stuff just adds to the hate and serves as additional excuses for the acrimony.

But the fact remains that they are our biggest threat, and in turn, that is why we hate them the most. Otherwise, they wouldn't be worth wasting the negative emotion on. Biggest competitor = biggest threat, biggest threat = biggest enemy, biggest enemy = most hatred.

Period.

PS - Lakers suck.

This post is beautiful :). I love how they're still called "the greatest franchise of all time"
True Celtic = Leon Powe

I lived in Brooklyn for a few years before moving out west, and I can tell you that there are still plenty of Dodgers fans there.

And by the logic of arenas, they shouldn't even have the 80s championship banners up because they won them in the Forum.

Also, cities don't own franchises (in most cases), rich people do.

Wow - such wanton, blatant LA dislike.....

I absolutely love it ;D.

I found this on hoopshype right before we started our series with LA. Gives some good background on our rivalry with them:

http://blogs.hoopshype.com/blogs/lazenby/2010/05/31/how-boston-has-made-hollywood-pay/

Enjoy!
