I think we've had the 2nd best off-season so far.

We kept intact, for the most part, a team that's only lost 2 playoff series, both in 7 games, in the last 3 years.

Both times we lost we had an injured starter.

The rest of the league is chasing us we aren't standing aside and watching them go by, we are at the top looking down at them scramble.

Well, we lost our starting center, lost our best defender, lost a good bench guy/rebounder...and replaced them with nothing.....JO may be okay, but he hasn't proved he is as good as either perk or sheed....and our drafting was what......nothing....two guys that prob wouldn't have even gotten picked at all?   Not one 7 footer..is that the combined thoughts of doc and danny....guard mentality to not draft any big men.......why would we need rebounders and height..it isn't like we lost to a team because of lack of height and rebounding..is it.....it's not like we lost in the FINALS because of a lack of extra big men or rebounders that we might have ever played...heyyyy, we had guards...so lets get more short guards....lets lower the rim....6'8" is all we need..lets have bbd lead the league is having his shot blocked...and so then get another 6'8" guy also.  And our #1 drafted guy....well...he needs surgery...is that a problem...?

Yes, there were probably 8-10 7 footers available when Danny drafted that will be ready to make big contributions in the playoffs this year. Drat! If only Danny knew anything about drafting players! I heard that Perk and Big Al actually had to slouch during their workouts to get Ainge to even consider them. Erden went the more clever route, sending Danny photos of him standing next to other centers who were wearing the jerseys of shooting guards from their teams. He appeared to be 6'4 or so, just below the acceptable threshold.

After the offseason that Miami had, there's not much we could do to keep pace.  Getting 2 superstars and an all-star to sign for well below market value.  Getting Mike Miller to accept a deal under the MLE when he likely could have made 10 mil per elsewhere.  Getting Udonis Haslem to sign for 12 mil less than Drew Gooden.

5 ridiculous bargains in one offseason.  A contender and they're not even in the luxury tax.

2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

SOME people here keep looking for instant fixes...everything isn't instant..we got lucky one time with this instant fix...sure, get a player, sit him on the bench all year, then stick him in game 6...and blamne him for any mistake..that is managemnt greatness, things you like i guess, look past anyone else's mistakes, just that one....well, lets just keep getting guards when we are 2, 7 footers short..hey, we can tell the other teams how good we looked b4..isn't that good enough..not like we needed more height last year, or more rebounds, now did we....put scval in there to cover gasol and make up for perk...heck, he showed us he hates the paint anyway...doc and danny know best...and you too.! WoooW.

they don't have drew gooden..

He never said they have Drew Gooden.  He said that they got Haslem for 12 million less than what Gooden got.

Whether we need 2 7 footers or 12 7 footers, good ones aren't readily available where the Celts picked in the draft. I don't think taking a player you don't think will be all that good just because he plays a position that you need help at accomplishes a lot. Yes, we needed more height last year after Perk was injured. Yes, we could have used more rebounds in the finals. No, none of the 7 footers that were available when Danny drafted are at all likely to be able to provide that in the playoffs this year.

Especially considering guys like Patrick O'Bryant and Robert Swift (who Danny loves) are lottery picks, what's available for us in the latter half of the 1st and 2nd round?

I am happy with JO as a pick up.  I think he will prove to be a significant overall upgrade to Sheed in terms of the bench but is also likely to start a bunch and maybe be an upgrade to Perk as well.  With Rondo and Perk on the floor at the same time, that is two BAD shooters.  Things will be different with JO.  There are still some decent wings out there also and if we get one of them, we will be in very good shape.

Actually the best off season pick up we could hope for is Rondo learning to shoot.  That is not adding Bosh and James but could be kind of like adding Chris Paul.

Until it is time to blow it all up, you really shouldn't expect much more in my opinion.

Hassan Whiteside -- quality seven foot prospect -- not ready to contribute immediately though.

Solomon Alabi -- could have bought a mid-second round pick and selected Alabi. He probably could have given good minutes as a fourth big in the depth chart. Legit seven footer with length and defensive ability.

Alright let me sum up this ridiculous thread.

We have

-Convinced Ray and Paul to come back, and for team friendly contracts.
-resigned Nate and Quisy under the Bird Right's
-Used the MLE on the best big available JO
-Still have Sheeds Contract and Vet. Min. to sign a couple more possibly big names.
-Made 2 excellent draft picks.

Did you expect a Lebron signing?

Please! Danny had an amazing offseason, and depending on how the first half of the season goes, he will make sure this team is championship ready come playoff time.

We have

-Convinced Ray and Paul to come back, and for team friendly contracts. Convinced them to come back? They both WANTED to come back and took less money to do so. There was no convincing involved.

-resigned Nate and Quisy under the Bird Right's. Yeah, and? Resigning your free agents who have no desire to play elsewhere is nothing to write home about.

-Used the MLE on the best big available JO. Okay, something we desperately needed. Great. He's better than nothing. Comparing this SOLE move to the moves other contenders have made is still unimpressive in the grand scheme of things.

-Still have Sheeds Contract and Vet. Min. to sign a couple more possibly big names. Yeah, let's see what we do with this, if anything. Everyday I see this person is meeting with this team, that person is trying out for that team...The Celtics are never in the news. They just seem to be way to laid back and lack the aggression needed in the front office to actually GO AFTER players.

-Made 2 excellent draft picks. Excellent? Seriously? I would go with solid. Good trade material if it comes down to it. Excellent is taking it way too far.

Nothing amazing about this off season. We all obviously have different definitions of amazing. The Heat had an AMAZING offseason. For the Celtics, I'll go with okay with the money we have at best.
