This is real easy. Rasheed was out of shape and poorly conditioned all of last year. Because of that his performance suffered greatly. I forget who it was but someone at ESPN ran out a stat that Rasheed's rebound percentage was the lowest rebound percentage of anyone 6'11" or taller in the history of the NBA last year. That's bad.

He went on to say he had trouble with the pain and physical exhaustion that the season put him through. So, if he was going to return, the only way for him to return and be a viable player for the Celtics would be to take two weeks off after the season ended and then got immediately into a major workout program to restructure his body to withstand the beating the regular season would put him through.

So, I wonder. Has Rasheed been working out diligently this off season? Is he on a proper diet? Hitting the weight room? Doing lots of cardio? Been in Waltham at all with the C's staff doing stuff? Playing lots of pick up ball? Have there been any reports of any of this?

My guess, unless Rasheed is doing any of the above, not only does he not want to come back, but we as fans should really not want him back because if you thought last year was an atrocious year for him, wait until next year if he isn't doing everything he can right now to get himself into tip top physical condition.

If his contract can be moved for a more impactful player, I am all for trading him and watching him retire.

However if nothing becomes available, I'd like to see him back.

So... yes and/or no.  ;D

Those are pretty much my thoughts, as well.

Exactly how I feel too.

If we need help for the regular season, why would we want a guy who jogs half-heartedly from one three-point line to the other during the regular season?

Think about it.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
He is definitely the best option out there. Knowing what we know now, I think Doc could even utilize him better in regards to his limitations and his philosophy towards the regular season. Maybe even Sheed would have a different approach being so close to a title. I say bring him back if he's willing--and will work a little harder to get in shape.

I think we know the answers to those questions:  No.  He wants to retire.  His body is breaking down.  He can't take the physical punishment anymore.  As I posted earlier in the thread, the ideal from the C's POV is for him to bridge the gap until Perk returns, but that's not likely now, which is why Ainge got JO.

A vet min big man seems more likely.

to those who are hopeful that Sheed will change and actually seem interested in the regular season: PUH-LEEEZ!

if he comes back, he will give us exactly what he gave last year. a pathetic regular season. I did, however, think he stepped it up a notch or 5 in the playoffs. His post defense on Dwight and Gasol were excellent. i would do a PJ Brown with him. he'll have February till the playoffs begin to get in shape.

btw, if Perk wasn't injured in game 6, do you think the C's could've pulled it off in game 7? coz i sure as hell do.

Why would anyone even consider this, especially after he's already made it clear that he wants to retire? It was difficult enough trying to get any semblance of effort out of him during the regular season, and limited production in the playoffs. Never liked the guy's attitude, and despite what others see as "great production", his stint as a Celtic has not changed my mind. Please ... no.

Hey :)

I'm new to this forum, I love the Celtics, first greet the world, well, I'm a fan of Sheed Wallace and would not want him to retire yet, I think he can still contribute much to the Celtics, I have hope that return, not officially say anything, but Rivers and Ainge think he will retire.
I repeat, I hope not, I'm sure the Celtics will struggle again this year by the ring and win at Miami in the Conference Finals and the Lakers in the Finals.
DO NOT RETIRE SHEED!!!

Greetings and BEAT L.A¡¡¡
