I'm happy with this since we don't have to use an asset (i.e Sheed's contract) to get him.  Like Nick said though he is a little fragile so I would like an additional wing for more insurance.   Maybe Rasual Butler for the vet min.   We still have Sheed's contract in play if DA wants to still try and pull off a bigger move later on but he seems to be very patient and not in a rush to move that contract just yet.
Reading my mind.  Good post.

Hoping that Daniels is the insurance policy and we can get a bigger SF with Sheed's retiring deal.

Meh ... my interest in this signing depends on whether Danny finds another wing to come in and play ahead of Marquis Daniels.

I largely agree; however, how long does Danny have to make this deal?  Can he go into the season or even preseason without either trading Rasheed and then having him retire OR having Rasheed report to camp?

I mean if he sits at home when training camp starts, is the league going to force him to retire, thus negating any shot we have to trade him?

I love this move.  I think Quis has alot to offer this team.  He has great size and can guard three positions.  I do agree that when healthy he is a 5 million dollar player especially in this market.

I think if he can stay healthy next year we may see that the wing player that we thought we needed was already with the team.  I love the way this guy moves without the ball.  He is one of the best cutters on this team IMO
I like the way he moves WITH the ball.  There aren't many players who are willing to take it into the paint like he does.  Just love when he does that and then stops on a dime for a short lane jumper.  It works like a charm.

I think they'll be able to hold out and trade Sheed at mid-season and then have him retire.

Sheed won't need to report to the team and play ... but the C's would need to pay him his paycheck until he is traded.

Do you people really think this is a good idea?

This is a guy who bumped his head into someone's chest in the playoffs and was lost to the team for the remainder of the playoffs with a concussion, right? The man is fragile and injury prone. We are going to be paying $2.5 million for about 50 games because that's all he seems to be able to get through before getting hurt.

Granted, the pickings are slim but, I'm not thrilled with paying a guy for half a year's work.

He is injury prone, but aren't you being a little harsh about the concussion thing?

Good signing at this point.

Small money.  1 year.

Will no longer be asked to be the PG.

Marquis is the epitome of the “good at all, great at none” type of player. He can do everything at a good to above average level, but he’s really not great at anything.

*Good slasher
*Respectable jump shooter (from mid-range)
*Smart distributor (for a non-PG)
*Good rebounder
*Capable defender
*Seems like a nice locker room guy

He’s a poor man’s Tony Allen :)

Like the signing, like it a lot.  Would love it if we can get someone who can hit a 3 on occassion to help out, too.  Stack would be nice as the 4th wing, he and Daniels have pretty complementary skillsets.

I don't mind this, I think we still need a big wing with range off of the bench and another big

+1 Tp. Saved me some typing.

And if Quis can stay healthy...then I am expecting him to be much better next season, especially now that he doesn't have to fight with TA for mins.

I don't want him to have any bigger of a role on this team than last year.  He proved last year he's not a great 3rd wing, and that's if he can even stay on the court.  He's a mediocre defender and can't really play the 3.

As a 4th wing, I don't really see a better choice for the minimum.  Put him behind a guy who can actually defend and shoot (him plus Tony was a disaster) and I like him a little better.  But a miniature bench of Nate 5'9" Bradley 6'2" Marquis 6'6", 200lb and Big Baby 6'8" doesn't make me very happy.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Good, smart move like others have said. $2.5M isn't bad.

With that said, still have some work to do. Only happy if we add more good players.

At this point, we can only sign players for vet minimum, correct? Of course we can still trade.

We definitely need a wing with an outside shot. Just to compliment Marquis off the bench.

Bring Finley back? I think Stack and Fin are both at the same places in their careers, same type of roles... but Finley has the edge in 3PT shooting.
