I'd really like Stack.  He openly said he'd like to play for Miami on NBA TV, but maybe he'd come to the C's.  We could use some offensive punch at the 3 off the bench.

I'd like him too. I saw and heard him on NBAtv, however. It was toward the end of our Orlando summer league. He was almost salivating at the idea of playing with them. He was like a groupie and clearly a "fan" of the new Heat. It was kind of disgusting, both his fawning and tremndous excitement over this team and his premature ejac coronation of them as NBA champs now and for years to come. Made me sick. On second thought, I don't want him.

I think it might be in both of our interests to wait a bit on this.  Stack is trying to get more money and I think it would behoove us to see what we do at the other wing spot.  If we end up getting more of a defender type at the 2/3 in Udoka, a guy like Stack might be a nice compliment.  However, if we end up upgrading with a Howard-type, getting a more defensive-minded guy like Udoka might fit better.

Is he looking for money, though?  He's trying to ride the Heat-Train to RingVille, and they can't offer him any more than the min.

Don't sleep on Quis, too.  Stack and Quis could be an interesting pairing; a very good shooter paired with a pretty good slasher/ballhandler/defender.  I'm coming to the conclusion that we're better off re-signing Quis and getting a shooter-type as the other backup wing (Stack, or a trade for Jason Kapono).

The teams glaring weakness right now is SF off the bench. As in someone who can guard elite SF's off the bench. We have depth everywhere else because of Pierce's and Rondo's flexibility in guarding SG. I believe the Suns will want to trade Dudley or Hill now that they have Turk. I suggest a Big Baby for either one of those guys if the Suns are interested. I also think there are some three team deals that make sense with ATL for Williams. With Childress going to the Suns a straight up trade makes less sense, but gives them a trade exception to be more flexible. There are other SFs that make sense (Julian Wright in NO could be an okay solution too.)

Assuming we get that fix and use only Sheed and non-rotation guys to do so we'll have:

Rondo / Nate
Ray Allen / AB
Pierce / SF
KG / Baby
Perk / JO

Since Perk is out - we'll need a vet min big. And another shooter with some size makes sense to compliment Nate and AB at the guard spots. I could see Stackhouse being that guy - but to me he's last priority. Signing him now could block other roster approaches and for a tenth man, he's overall impact will be low, so its not critical. If he's our 6th or 7th man off the bench, we're in trouble anyways.

I agree.  I started a "Bring Back Marquis" thread over two weeks ago.  I think we should sign him right now.  It doesn't look like he's getting more than a minimum deal and we can give him more than that.

We can give him a little more money than anyone else; I mean, never say never in this market, but he looks like an LLE-level guy based on last year's production and we can give him a little more $$ than that.

Kind of a side thing, but it might not be a bad thing to have Quis on the books at $2.5M versus signing Udoka at the vet min; you could theoretically pair Quis' and Big Game Davis' contracts to get an MLE-level player at the deadline.  Costs the owners a little money, but I am a Quis supporter, I think he's a better player that the names that are being bandied about freely.  I like that he's got versatility, that he can back up Pierce AND Ray AND be the *emergency* PG.  He was playing some pretty good D earlier in the year, although I think that gets forgotten because he always looks like he's playing at half-speed.

And, he's be a real nice complement to a guy like Stack.  I could see a Quis/Stack/Nate combo working pretty well.

Who is our back-up 2 guard? You're not really suggesting that Rondo or Pierce is our back-up 2, are you?

We need more than one wing player signed this offeason. Stack isn't the solution to all of our problems, but he certainly could be to a couple of them -- namely, the ability for the 2nd unit to EVER score, and otherwise keep defenses honest.... for cheap, i might add.

We absolutely should! We're getting too young (and inexperienced) with that O'Neal signing.  ;D

With Marquis signing, I think this remains a smart way to round out our wing position for now. We need shooting and offense -- Stack can provide that. I'd also be happy to keep him from the heat.

Two carolina wings I would never want on the C's Stackhouse and Carter.  Both are chokers when games matter.  I have to admit though that Stackhouse is more palatable to me than Hughes.

I don't see how there's much PT for Stack in Miami unless they are going to run Wade/LeBron as the point guard (or LeBron at PF).  Between those two and Mike Miller, that's 99% of the available (meaningful) minutes at the 2/3 spots that are covered.

He doesn't seem to care -- he's indicated he'd sign with them for the minimum.
