I think the Cs should seriously consider signing Stackhouse to a 1-year deal. He meets specific need criteria:

1)   He played well last year in MIL;
2)   he continues to have the ability to create offense for himself;
3)   his age and experience jive with that of the Big 3, something the Celtics seem to embrace in short, stopgap signings to keep this team relevant for the next year or two;
4)   he would settle for the vet min, presumably;
5)   if he doesn’t work you, he should be easy to trade or cut;
6)   $10 says he signs with the Heat if we don’t get there first.

Stack can still play. He’d immediately bring offense to this O-challenged squad. Personally, I see the risk-reward as a no-brainer…

Meh. Not a bad option for a last resort if we cant get anyone else. I wouldnt mind having him as our 10th man. He could fill in our SG spot but I still think we need a 6th/7th man to fill the role of long athletic SF.

I remember him playing very well in Milwaukee, I don't see why we wouldn't give him a look. I think most of the vet free agents are waiting to see if they can get some money before agreeing to sign for the min.

Was surprised that he was as effective a player for the Bucks last year as he was.  The questions are all on D.  We brought in Michael Finley last year basically for the same role (although Fin isn't creating his own shot any more), but he couldn't stay on the court once the games started counting because his defense was so horrible.

Can Stack at least keep his man in front of him anymore?  He was never a great defender, but is he at least a little better than Finley?  No point signing someone who Doc just isn't going to trust because of their D.

I don't like Stackhouse as a rotation player. Good deep reserve though, end of roster player.

Two thoughts here, 1) as you point out, Stack can still egt his own shot. That ship has sailed for Finley; 2) I'm looking to find guys who can take some minutes off of Pierce and Allen, especially early in the season. He's an excellent fit in that capacity, and may prove more valuable that that / more so than we expect.

My point is his value is actually pretty high if you look at the available wings. I'd get him now.

I agree with the OP.  We need dependable players who can provide decent minutes off the bench, and Stack will/should be able to do that.  I guess the question is whether he is okay with the vet min...

I just need to be convinced that he can play enough D to stay on the court.  Doesn't need to be lockdown, just needs to *not* be Finley-esque.  Otherwise, it's a waste of a roster space.

My *impression* of Stack is that he's a heady enough ballplayer where he could do well, kind of like Ray Allen does well, in the Celtics' team scheme.  Just not sure, though.

He wants to sign with the heat. Not sure why he would want them over us because he would get better minutes behind ray allen and paul pierce then dwayne wade and Lebron James.

He's stated in the past he'd take it for a champ caliber team, and played for it last year. The Cs are really a perfect fit for him, so if they expressed interest you'd have to think he'd consider it....

Free-agent forward Jerry Stackhouse is interested in playing for the Heat.

Stackhouse played well for the Bucks last season.

"When you look at a situation with Miami now and having to try and fill their roster with minimum-type contracts," he said recently on NBA TV, "I would take one of those minimum contracts if they're available."

How many spots do the Heat have left? Can't wait till they are done filling up their roster, so all the vet min type of players can stop being obsessed with playing on that team.

Precisely why the Cs should make him an offer ASAP. Like the Heat need any more advantages.... when Stack is matched up with Jarvis Hayes, who would you say has the advantage? Ugh.

I'd really like Stack.  He openly said he'd like to play for Miami on NBA TV, but maybe he'd come to the C's.  We could use some offensive punch at the 3 off the bench.

I think it might be in both of our interests to wait a bit on this.  Stack is trying to get more money and I think it would behoove us to see what we do at the other wing spot.  If we end up getting more of a defender type at the 2/3 in Udoka, a guy like Stack might be a nice compliment.  However, if we end up upgrading with a Howard-type, getting a more defensive-minded guy like Udoka might fit better.

When Grant Hill didn't came last season I was lobbying for Stack. Look what he did for the Bucks.
