I think it might be in both of our interests to wait a bit on this. Stack is trying to get more money and I think it would behoove us to see what we do at the other wing spot. If we end up getting more of a defender type at the 2/3 in Udoka, a guy like Stack might be a nice compliment. However, if we end up upgrading with a Howard-type, getting a more defensive-minded guy like Udoka might fit better.
Is he looking for money, though? He's trying to ride the Heat-Train to RingVille, and they can't offer him any more than the min.
Don't sleep on Quis, too. Stack and Quis could be an interesting pairing; a very good shooter paired with a pretty good slasher/ballhandler/defender. I'm coming to the conclusion that we're better off re-signing Quis and getting a shooter-type as the other backup wing (Stack, or a trade for Jason Kapono).
I agree. I started a "Bring Back Marquis" thread over two weeks ago. I think we should sign him right now. It doesn't look like he's getting more than a minimum deal and we can give him more than that.
We can give him a little more money than anyone else; I mean, never say never in this market, but he looks like an LLE-level guy based on last year's production and we can give him a little more $$ than that.
Kind of a side thing, but it might not be a bad thing to have Quis on the books at $2.5M versus signing Udoka at the vet min; you could theoretically pair Quis' and Big Game Davis' contracts to get an MLE-level player at the deadline. Costs the owners a little money, but I am a Quis supporter, I think he's a better player that the names that are being bandied about freely. I like that he's got versatility, that he can back up Pierce AND Ray AND be the *emergency* PG. He was playing some pretty good D earlier in the year, although I think that gets forgotten because he always looks like he's playing at half-speed.
And, he's be a real nice complement to a guy like Stack. I could see a Quis/Stack/Nate combo working pretty well.
