Honestly I would give him another shot at this point. I would think he would look elsewhere though. He took less to showcase his talents and win a ring. He went 0 for 2. I think he prob wants to move on.

Agreed but I would take him @ this point.  Maybe he feels he has something to prove after last year?

I lived in Dallas while Marquis played for the Mavs, always liked what I saw out of him there, he was always one of my favs and a good contributor I thought to that '06 Finals teams.  I'm more than willing to give him another shot and hope he has an injury free year.

Got the impression that him and Josh Howard were real good friends when they were in Dallas.  Maybe re-signing Marquis helps encourage Josh Howard to come (or maybe not since they play similar positions).  Or maybe we don't want friends like that together, puff puff pass.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

I don't know about how the friendship thing would work; however, Daniels and Howard would be a phenomenal backup wing tandem for us.  They both logged heavy minutes on that Dallas Finals team.

And we legitimately have a second team when Perk came back if that happened: Nate, Daniels, Howard, Baby, and O'Neal.  That's a better team than some team's starting 5.

I don't get it.  Why do people think he sucks.  Marquis was solid until he got hurt and missed a bunch of games.  Then he never got a chance cause we gave his minutes to Tony.

We should sign him right now.

Its not an ideal option, but it may be better than the alternatives because at least he can defend.  I'd give him another shot at this point, though I'm wondering whether Doc wants him back.

Someone please tell me why we want Marquis back?

Ok i'm from boston, but I live in cali now so I rarely get to see regular season games. I watched every minute of the playoffs however and I never once saw him have any kind of impact on the game what-so-ever. As far as I can tell he has no shot, cannot drive, is undersized, injury prone, low basketball iq(a la headbutting a 7-footer in the chest and knocking yourself out) I just dont get it. He seemed to have some hustle on the defensive end, but like wooden says "Dont mistake activity for achievement" I've never seen any of his play from other teams.. Was he good at one point and is just struggling with low minutes? Is he just one of those "could have potential" type of guys?

Someone please explain to me why we wouldnt be better off taking a shot at a cheap, younger guy who also has some potential?
Andy Bernard doesnt lose constests. He wins them, or he quits them because they're unfair.

Well, prior to getting hurt midway through the season, he looked quite good for us.  I think part of the problem he had even then, though, is that Doc was saying he wanted him to be a playmaker, but didn't really let him run the offense.  So I think some of his perceived passivity was partially uncertainty on his part about what he should be doing.  With Nate back, PG duty shouldn't be a main priority.

As for why he should come back:

-He's been a starter in the league and a contributor on elite teams (Dallas).  He's likely better than anyone else we can get on the FA market.

-He's quite a good defender.

-He's a very good ball handler who can play some point.  Pairing him and Nate together could lead to Nate getting more shots and having to worry less about playmaking.

-He can score.  Though not a good outside shooter, he has a good mid-range game and can take it to the basket.

-He knows the system.  There won't be any learning curve about picking up the plays or defensive rotations.

Personally,i don't think he sucks as a player. My problem with Daniels has been his games played per season. In 7 complete seasons,he averages 57.3ga.per season. He has never played a full season since he came into the league in'02-03.After awhile why wouldn't people start to question his drive or interest in winning.

We dont need potential we are trying to win a title this next year. I think Danny understands that we need rebounding help.
If you resign Marquis who played well untill he got injured. You then can use Rasheeds contract to get us a Young Big who can make a contribution on the boards.

Besides Marquis is a better option at third wing than anyone else avaible on the market right now. So it makes total sense.

I also wonder if he wants to spend another year behind Paul and Ray.  And given that the C's still would like to upgrade beyond Marquis, I wonder how he feels about being the 4th wing type.  That wouldn't exactly drive up his value, which is what he was trying to do when he signed here last year.

Still, we can offer more than the minimum to him, which might mean something.

Before the injury:

He looked to be a very high bbiq type of player. Constantly made good decisions and I felt very comfortable with him out on the court.

An offensive threat. Feed him in the post and he will get a good look with his weird midrange floater shots and overall creativity. Can absolutely take advantage of poor to average defenders.

Solid defensively. Even guarded Lebron well in that opening night game. I'd call it slightly above average D.

All right shot. Much higher level than Tony Allen from downtown, but definitely not good either.

And let's also remember the piece of mind that Marquis would give us.  While most of us would like to see him be the 4th wing, we could at least start the season with him as the primary option.  This means that Danny doesn't have to rush to trade Sheed's deal if the market isn't good right this second.

Has there been any indication from the Celtics that they are even interested in bringing Marquis back?  If not, that is pretty telling...

A lot depends on who the Cs think he is right now.  The first half of the season he was a solid rotation player.  After his injury, something wasn't right.  He looked tentative and confused.

If he can return to being the guy we had the first half of the year, you'd be happy to have him - he's better than anybody we could reasonably hope to get and he knows the system.  But if he's the guy we had the second half of the season, well, you'd take a whole lot of players before him.  Hopefully the Cs (and Quisy) have some idea what went wrong and how to fix it, because I'm not sure we're getting any of the guys we really want to back up the 2 and 3.
