  • Another undersized Celtic...
Ok i'm from boston, but I live in cali now so I rarely get to see regular season games. I watched every minute of the playoffs however and I never once saw him have any kind of impact on the game what-so-ever. As far as I can tell he has no shot, cannot drive, is undersized, injury prone, low basketball iq(a la headbutting a 7-footer in the chest and knocking yourself out) I just dont get it. He seemed to have some hustle on the defensive end, but like wooden says "Dont mistake activity for achievement" I've never seen any of his play from other teams.. Was he good at one point and is just struggling with low minutes? Is he just one of those "could have potential" type of guys?

Someone please explain to me why we wouldnt be better off taking a shot at a cheap, younger guy who also has some potential?

He's actually a pretty good slasher. He can really take it to the hoop and squeeze up some difficult shots in tight spaces. I thought up until his injury he was going to be decent. Getting benched for the playoffs surely didn't do much for his confidence. It seems like he can play good defense, but either he was missing rotations or just not being aggressive enough because he had a hard time staying on the floor. On offense, after he hurt his thumb his shooting pretty much sucked--TA was a better option at the time because he was a better defender and could do the same things offensively that Marquis could when his shot stopped falling.

And let's also remember the piece of mind that Marquis would give us.  While most of us would like to see him be the 4th wing, we could at least start the season with him as the primary option.  This means that Danny doesn't have to rush to trade Sheed's deal if the market isn't good right this second.
I see where you are coming from with the not rushing out to use the Sheed dollars, but can you honestly trust a player that always turns up hurt during each season he's played in the NBA...and usually its long stretches that he's out.(averages 57.3games a season). He hasn't  played a full NBA season in the 7seasons in the NBA.Maybe Danny and Wyc are a little hesitate about bringing him back.

Do we really need to have a zillion of threads on the same player?

I don't get it.  Why do people think he sucks.  Marquis was solid until he got hurt and missed a bunch of games.  Then he never got a chance cause we gave his minutes to Tony.

We should sign him right now.

Has there been any indication from the Celtics that they are even interested in bringing Marquis back?  If not, that is pretty telling...

I've had a hard time figuring out when this whole disconnect happened. I guess it was post injury--he just faded after he had surgery, and lost all his confidence. I think he could still contribute, but maybe there's more behind the scenes than I realize. Aren't Marquis and Josh Howard both similar players, do similar things and both get injured a lot? And they both got their starts in Dallas?

There is a reason why Doc buried him. Zero Impact. But the question is, Can the Celtics do better? He might their best option for now.

Wasn't the same thing exact said about TA after the 09 season? How quickly things change.

Thats what I'm saying things do change. Maybe Q learned a lesson, and he is ready to contribute. I'd take him over any available FA not names Josh Howard.

I'm with you. There are NO FA's out there that are willing to sign for the vet. min. and are better than Daniels.

I also like how Daniels can handle the ball offensively and would allow Robinson more freedom as a scorer.

You're questioning somebody's masculinity because they suffered a brain injury?  That doesn't really seem appropriate to me.

Criticize how injury-prone the guy is all you want, but the argument that "he must be a wimp because he suffered a concussion" seems pretty weak to me.

Everything else I'm seeing is either unproven or very likely beyond our budget without having to part with a rotation player.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
Pros of Signing Marquis
1. He knows the system
2. Everyone remembers him fading at the end of the season but a lot of people seem to forget he played very well in the first half
3. How many guys have recently averaged 17 points a game who will make little more than the min?
4. He is a good defender
5. He plays better when his role is certain, without TA it would be.
6. The alternative are not that good.
