mmmmh.... Do you want this guy?

unfortunately maybe the celtics had to go after him harder after losing out on Brewer today.
I don't think Orlando would be willing to help us out with a sign and trade for Sheed's contract, so the idea that other teams jumped in does not bode well for us. We can't increase our offer the vet min is what we can offer. That's it.

His Twitter posting alone makes me not want to sign him.

He could've gotten the same results if he posted himself on Ebay because he essentially threw himself out there at a low starting bid and is hoping it would draw some interest.
I don't like the guy, but then I didn't like Sheed either.

Apparently, Boston was offering Ronnie Brewer a 3 year, 12 million dollar deal through some sort of sign-n-trade arangement with Memphis.  They're under the cap, so Boston could get a trade exception in return.

Cleveland should acquire Barnes, then Dan Gilbert should put a hit out on LeBron and beg Barnes to fulfill the contract on the court.

I'm with you there as I thought Sheed was done the previous year.  Turns out he was just done with the regular season.

Still think Barnes will end up getting more than he is worth or more than we can offer.

I didn't think of that. How much would a trade exception be worth. Ta Signed for 2 years 10 million correct? Does it matter how much he makes over the first year or is it the average value of the contract. Assuming it is the averaging value we could get a contract for 125% of the year one value (the most salary we could take back) or just $5 MM. If we could get a $6.75 trade exception that would be huge for us.

We could sign Howard Barnes or Shaq even without using any of Sheed's trade money.

I forgot to add that I think the surprise was that he was going to sign a contract to play overseas similar to what Childress did.  In fact I think this may be a good option for him to make some money.

TA signed for 3 years, not 2.

Memphis is over the cap. They used MLE money to sign Allen.

It sounds like Boston was exploring a mutual sign and trade option of Brewer for Allen. Short of trading Sheed, that would have been the only way to acquire Brewer.

I doubt it.  My guess is the C's are only interested in him at the vet minimum, and I don't think that has changed.  My guess is now that Brewer is off the market, some teams with some cash left are starting to offer him a little more money.

According to a couple different sites, Memphis is under the cap even after signing TA.

Yeah I think you are right on. Barnes will probably chase the dough if it becomes available. Who wouldn't?
