TCU is proving yet again that the "mid-majors" belong right there with the big boys (like, um, UConn).

Uconn's not a mid-major technically.  IMO no team from the Big East deserved to be in a BCS Bowl game this year.

That's what I meant.  It's silly that UConn is a team from a "major conference" that gets an automatic bid, but TCU (a "mid-major") has to go undefeated to make a bowl.  It's pretty obvious which is the better team, but our ridiculous system severely handicaps teams that don't come from the arbitrary power conferences.

I'm rooting for UConn tonight, but they don't deserve to be in a BCS bowl.

Completely agree.  I thought because UConn is new to college football and not that great that you were considering them as if they were a mid-major.

TCU just gave us yet another year without a real champion. Rather we keep getting this popularity contest stuff that I thought most girls outgrew in 6th grade, but apparently the NCAA boys still kinda like it.

Wow... the Big Ten is probably thinking about disbanding after the day they had today.  They played five games and lost all five by a combined 102 points.

In other Big Ten news today Robert Bolden wants to transfer from Penn State to an FBS school. That would make the second one of those in recent memory after Pat Devlin did it.  I don't think these kids are necessarily thinking this through. I don't think the NFL like quitters and Lebrons.

One thing that bothers the heck out of me is that there is absolutely no way on the Earth that Virginia Tech should be ranked higher than Boise St to start next year, and yet I'm pretty sure they will be.

They were ranked #3 this year, right?  If Kellen Moore comes back, I expect them to still rank highly in the preseason polls.=

This is my point. Why should Kellen Moore have to come back for them to rank high? A lot of teams that will be ranked high will have lost their QBs.  Florida lost Tebow and was still ranked high to start the year.  VT will lose Tyrod. Auburn will probably lose Cam. Bama loses McElroy and probably Ingram.  But those teams will still be ranked plenty high. But Boise and TCU will lose their Qbs and most likely get dropped because they want us to think the sisters of the poor continuously beat the big boys with smoke and mirrors.

With Pitt and UConn losing coaches I would expect BC and some other northeast schools like PSU, Syracuse, and Rutgers to get some of these guys.

Maryland is also a wildcard

The NFL also doesnt like Second String college quarterbacks.  With the exception of matt cassell.  If these guys make that kind of move its not to quit its to play.

There are many many players that sat and waited their turn to play a year or so and were drafted.  Bolden had a tough freshmen year. It happens frequently. Does he really think playing for Grambling or something is going to help him prepare more for the NFL than playing at PSU?  Also if he doesn't think he can beat out McGloin then he has no business in the NFL anyway.  It would be one thing to go to another BCS type school, but running from competition isn't likely to help him.  I also have to wonder if he basically can't cut it at PSU academically.

wouldnt he not have to sit out a year if he goes to an FBS school instead of a BCS school. That may be a factor too

I believe you have to sit out a year if you transfer to another D1 school, which is perhaps partly why some of these guys like Devlin and Bolden went to FBS schools. In the case of Devlin he went to the exact same school as Flacco (who did the same thing) which was Delaware.  I think it may have backfired on him as he certainly didn't take them to a FBS championship or even deep in the playoffs I think.

But Bolden could have redshirted a year and since McGloin is a year older than him he could have started for two years with some significant experience under his belt, whereas Devlin was behind Daryl Clark and would only have had one year.  Plus it's not like Devlin didn't wait his turn, because he absolutely did.  He also did ok when given a chance. I think he beat Ohio State essentially.

I just think this following Flacco thing is largely a mistake.

Do you know what the QB situation there is?  Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall that he is not going to get to start next year.  If that's the case, then I think its a good move.
