Powe was vastly superior? LOL That's why whenever there was a need for an impact player in a big game, Doc picked Baby over Powe, even when Baby was a rookie, and Baby delivered.
Let's look at the Lakers series in '08. Playing time for the two guys.
Game 1. Powe 9:19, Davis DNP
Game 2. Powe 14:39, Davis DNP
Game 3. Powe 5:59, Davis DNP
Game 4. Powe 9:03, Davis DNP
Game 5. Powe 4:59, Davis DNP
Game 6. Powe 9:18, Davis 14:34 (blowout win)
Neither played very much in the season, but Powe was in every game (including the "Leon POW?" game when he scored 21), Davis didn't sniff the court until the series was over.
He had nine DNP's that whole postseason, Powe only sat out three games.
Was either of these guys a MAJOR contributor during that run? Nah, because we still had Posey.
Your statement that Doc always picked Davis over Powe in important games, even while Davis was a rook, is patently false, though.
