I would give Nate the $3 million per year, but only for 2 years. Perhaps if I was feeling spendy, I'd throw a championship bonus on top of that, all-star, whatever. I think he'd help us more than the next guy. Honestly, I really like the way he looked with us in those playoff games, but running some nice plays initiating the S/R and then hitting some big 3's. I don't think I ever saw him walk the ball up the court, which is a key. So I might overpay, but only for 2 years, but given his youth and health, if the price was right, I'd go longer: one way or the other, overpay/few years, underpay/long years. Whew...
Quisy: Also better than the other options, though not reliable due to health. This was probably the least productive year he's had, and he needs to redeem himself with a 2-year contract. If we're really going all-in for the next two years, we need to keep him, even if we don't need him.
Scal: I'd even give him LLE-level money for loyalty (above the minimum). He does what he's asked to do, and learns quickly, making him adaptable. Won't Edited. Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., no matter how it shakes out. Part of recent winning culture, keep him for cultural continuity? Ahem....
Perk: He's taken security over a payday before. Healthy, he's an $8 million/yr man. If he comes back as backup material-only, he's a $2-6 million/yr man. Gamble on his recovery, and offer him an extension starting at $4 million?
Perk: The other option is to trade him, since he probably won't be 100% next year, and his effectiveness and minutes-availability is questionable even into the playoffs, as recover usually is a yearish with his stuff. He'll be a FA, too. Maybe some other team will be interested to have Bird rights when his rehab is done and he becomes a FA? Combine his contract with Sheed's, and we could perhaps return one or more higher-caliber pieces.
