If this is a 4 or 5 year deal, then I can see why Danny wouldn't do it. He got burned once already giving out a 5 year $15 million deal to a bit role player that had a decent playoff run(Scal). He won't do it again with Tony because I just don't see Tony giving this team 5 good years with his inconsistency and injury problems.

If it's 4 or 5 years, bye bye Tony. Don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

How exactly did Scal's contract burn us?  And I think TA's body of work is quite a bit more impressive than Scal's was at the time of his signing.
He got burned in the court of public opinion because Scal turned out to be a veteran minimum type player that was earning $2 million more per year than he was worth.

This would be downright shocking.  $3 million per year is way too little...particularly for a team like Memphis.  With contending teams really looking for a defensive stopper, I think he could get much more than that, and play for a much better team.  I don't buy this at all.

The last time this reporter posted he was telling of the Commercial Appeal learning of Rudy Gay's signing, so he's not a crackpot.

Still, I would be shocked if the C's whiffed on TA.  Makes very little basketball sense as we have very little way of replacing him, unless Avery Bradley gains 20 lbs of muscle and few years of NBA experience before the start of the season.
Ronald Tillery is a very reliable beat reporter. Great sources within the Grizzlies.

He had a couple of fantastic interviews with Michael Heisley and Lionel Hollins at the end of the season.

For the Celtics' sake, I hope his sources are off this time.

If as Nick suggested the issue is the length of the contract, I wonder if TA/Memphis will throw us a bone and work out some kind of sign and trade for Brewer (if he even wants to come here).

I'm not sure if Danny respects the judgments of the court of public opinion.  But you may be right about the length being the deal-killer for the Celtics.

Shocking development... I hope TA stays with us!

Plus, like it has already been said it makes no sense to see him go to Memphis if they offer "only" 3m$, Danny would match. So it's probably about the years, like Nick said.

I wonder if Tony is going to give Danny the option of making a final offer before signing.

If true, hopefully they'll do a sign and trade. If TA signs for $3 million per season, then the Celtics could acquire a traded player exception for that amount. It would enable Ainge to pick up someone like Rudy Fernandez for nothing...

Memphis are over the cap. No opportunity for a traded player exception.

They have a payroll of around $62-63 million after signing Rudy Gay.

Yes, that's my concern. If had signed with a team with cap space then we could've had a TPE. Perhaps we can do a S&T with Nate to get a TPE.

exactly.  No idea why the Celtics don't sign him for that amount.  He is well worth it as the defensive wing off the bench.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

Ugh, 3/10 for TA would of been a freaking bargain . This hurts, his defense and athleticism was HUGE for us.

I have no interest in Marquis coming back, but dont know who else we could get cheap. I wonder if TA gave Danny a chance to match the offer.
