  • Another undersized Celtic...
I wonder -- is a 6'5 player that plays no defense visually more appealing than a 6'1 player that plays no defense? Because I really can't find other advantages.

He'd be a better defender against the shooting guards he SHOULD be matched up with.  He tries, but he gets outquicked by a lot of PGs.  Besides, not every player on the roster will be a lockdown defender, that doesn't mean that they aren't valuable.  Look at shooting guards like Kevin Martin, or hell - look at the contract Kyle Korver just signed.  Defenders don't get much worse than Kyle Korver, but he's still considered an MLE-level player because of his shot.

How would a (theoretical, in his prime) 6'5" Eddie House be any worse a player than Kyle Korver?

TP. Kyle Korver is a 6'7" version of Eddie. Neither play great defense or can create their own shot, but both are automatic when they're on. Korver is actually a much better shooter statistically year to year, but rarely plays a full season. If he hadn't missed 30 games last year and still shot as well as he did, he would have been one of the top 2's in free agency, maybe right behind Ray and ahead of Mike Miller.

I'm waiting, but it sure seems like Danny is "pretending" to shop sheed's contract, then they'll just let it expire to save money. If so, that's a terrible basketball move. it sure seems like he could jump in with sheed's contract plus a second rounder for redick, or Morrow, or Miller, etc. and enticed the trading team into at least getting second rounder instead of not getting anything for letting their FA walk.

Basically, he seems to be letting a lot of players pass him by.

Looking at what Morrow, for example, is signing for, seems like danny should have been more active in shopping sheed's deal for a big man (like the other Al Jefferson threads have mentioned), then using the MLE on a wing. Hopefully he's working hard and is close to inducing a s&t or straight trade with Sheed's deal, but no smoke yet.

No matter how you twist it, trading Sheed's retiring contract for anyone meaningful seems pipe dreamish. We already know Sheed MIGHT retire AND even if he didn't he's basically done in the NBA; not an appealing thought for another team. Is it really that far-fetched to you that teams either really aren't taking the bait or don't need Sheed's contract THAT badly?

If Danny pulls of something with Sheed's contract, then a thousand hoorays to us. But I feel like it's a long shot right now.

Ainge could still sign Morrow in a S&T deal with Golden State. If they match, then we acquire Morrow and another chip for Sheed's contract.

Ainge could still be thinking about a S&T for Childress or an outright singing of Josh Howard.

If Atlanta wants to keep Childress, then we may acquire Marvin Williams in a swap for Sheed's contract.

There are plenty of options still available. Like I posted yesterday, it may very well be that Sheeds contract has to be moved in a 3 or 4 team deal that brings us back a wing player.

BTW, Orlando is likely to match for Reddick, and we HAD to use the MLE to acquire JO, because he will be our starting center most of the season, if not all of it. That made it impossible to acquire Miller.

I remember 3 summers ago we waited and waited and waited and finally we got Posey. It was worth the wait. Something may happen next week, but honestly, it may be August before the roster is filled out.

I am hoping we can get Kwame Brown locked up before Miami makes a play. We still need another big as well as a wing.

but cmon how about
option 1:Josh Childress(s&t)
option 2:Leonardo Barbosa(trade sheedss con tract)
option 3:Josh howard(trade sheed's contract)
option 4:BIG AL!!! he's our last option if we dnt pick up one of these guyss and if childress or howard end up in MIA imma be [peeved]!

No to Howard. Sheed's contract needs to be to get Big Al. So I say we resign Nate, and S/t Daniels for a shooter
Can't stop, Rondo!

I agree with this. We need to get rid of Quis and possibly package him with Sheldon or something, and try to sign someone like Ben Wallace for vet min as well.

Danny's just being patient.  Picking up a JJ Reddick or an Anthony Morrow is not enough to make us serious contenders again for this upcoming season.  And he recognizes that.

He's waiting for someone to get desperate.  He's probably got a few different scenarios in mind that he is going to let play out, and hopefully one of them works out for us (Minnesota?  In a month or two will they be desperate to get rid of Big Al?).  David Lee might have been another one.

He has shown his patience in the past.

Exactly. I must have missed the official designation of JJ No D as the "missing championship link."

Ainge knows the status of players that none of us know. You only get one chance to trade Sheed's corpse.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I think Danny Ainge is being smart and patient.  C's don't need a morrow, reddick, korver, or miller type. If u want another shooter just get Eddie House at vet min. - Celts need a long wing player, athletic, can rebound and score to help back-up Paul and Ray - I like the idea of bringing in Eddie and Big Ben Wallace[avg.8 reb/game](or Kwame if can't get Ben) at vets min. - and then using Sheed's contract and another trade chip (s&t nate, finley, trade BBD] to get a - Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton, Leandro Barbosa, Tracy McGrady, Josh Childress, Josh Howard, Ronnie Brewer

I would have really liked to work out a S&T for Miller, but that's a terrible idea for the Heat AND Miller. Why would he go there? For 20 minutes a game? Why wouldn't the Heat use that money at C or PG? OK...

And yeah, I'd like to get Childress (or Williams) from the Hawks for 'Sheed + fillers. Howard would be great too.

Maybe bring back Eddie if not Nate.

Yes yes yes to Ben Wallace.

Mike Miller fits that description pretty well.

With Lee's signing, Gadzuric is expendable.

Gadzuric and S$T morrow for

Sheed, BB, S$T TA

TA would fly in Don N open offense, BB gives them PF help and the cap room gain from Sheed helps with the cao so the team's interest to sell.

Amen.  I don't understand why the Heat would want Miller or why anyone thinks it's a good idea.  Unless Bosh is going to play out of position at center and LeBron's going to become a power forward, Miller can't start for Miami.  They'd be much better off using that money to land DFish from the Lakers.
