I wouldn't follow such a finals, but I'd root for the heat.

I'm assuming that he's talking about regular season games, as they're hardly a lock to meet in the finals...

They will be the favorites by the start of the season, and, IMO, by the start of the playoffs.

I'm sure they will. Just like Cleveland and Orlando were favorites against us this year.

And the Lakers?

This scenario (Lakers-Heat finals) is similar to the 88 and 89 seasons. I absolutely hated Isiah and the Detroit bad boys during that era, specially when they finally went over the hump and beat the Celtics for the Eastern Conference crown. However, when they faced the Lakers, I definitely rooted for them to kick some laker butt. I didn't really go out of my way to follow the championship series, but I definitely wanted Detroit to win.

Not even a question.  Heat.

A better question would be Yankees vs. Lakers.   ;)

Heat...I like Wade and I'm neutral towards Bosh so it cancels out my dislike of LeBron.

I really don't want to see Kobe win any more.

If someone built a time machine and sent the Lakers to compete for the US in the 1972 Olympics, there's something wrong with you as a Celtics fan if you don't root for the Soviet Union.

This would be a tough one.

No it's not and wouldn't be!  A true Celtics fan never will cheer for the Lakers.

Agree - especially when a win would tie us for titles (if you count Minny titles, of course). Can't support the Lakers there no matter who's across from them.  And I like Wade and have nothing against Bosh.

Also it'll be very tough for LeBron to get the same annoying media hype treatment he's been getting if success comes with another superstar and an all-star on a manufactured team.  One of the best things to come out of this Miami business is that LeBron may very well never win an MVP again, and will never again get the credit of single-handedly carrying a team.  We'll hear a lot about the Heat, but the LeBron individual hype will probably slow down quite a bit, because he's basically abandoned the idea of leading his own franchise.

So? Is your point that, since the favorites don't lose every time, they win every time? Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Here's a related hypothetical.

Let's pretend that Miami and LA made a trade.  Kobe Bryant for Dwayne Wade.

So now...

LA is led by Dwayne Wade (who I like) and Pau Gasol (who I kinda like/at least have a lot more respect for).

Miami is led by BronBron, Kobe, and Chris "Lapdog" Bosh.

Gotta hold your nose, ignore history and root for LA, right?

I never ever ever root for the Lakers. Never. Especially this current group who are the most unlikeable phony bunch I've seen in ages. I hate Lebron's appalling narcissism but as a female I'll take that any day over the repugnance of an alleged rapist who thinks trotting out his kids during every timeout will erase our memories.

Terrorism.

But seriously, it is a conundrum. Pull for the Heat to help us get home court over the Lakers or pull for LA to help us get the top seed in the EC. I think I will pull for the Heat, because we aren't going to be the top seed. Most likely, a 2-3 seed. We just need to have a better record than LA. We can win on the road, I just don't know about a game 7 in LA.

I just don't get it with a bunch of you guys.  It's not about the players....it's the team.  I root for the Celtics no matter how they are put together; and I root against the Fakers no matter what.  Why is that so difficult to understand? It's the same for me with the Skankies and Sox.  It's the team not the players.

If a meteor came crashing down on that particular NBA Finals, I wouldn't be too broken up by it, to say the least.  If I had to pick one, I'd say Lakers, Lakers, Lakers.  I never thought I'd have a chance to see anything worse than a Laker dynasty, but a Heat dynasty would be 10x as insufferable because they have no real fans, and the ESPN Hype Machine would try to make them the greatest team ever in any sport, and these guys spit in the face of the idea of team sports.
Where did you get the idea that Miami doesn't have any "real" fans? Where do people get these ideas? Do you know any fans from Miami? I do, and they are pretty loyal.

I don't get the self-righteous "real fan" arguments.

Have you scene how many fans come to their games?  They don't even sell out to watch Wade in the playoffs.  No one goes to Marlins games (2 rings) no one goes to Miami Hurricaine games.  I'm not even sure they sell out the Dolphin games and everyone sells out NFL games.
