Anyone remember if Sheed had a trade kicker? Wouldn't that mean we could trade him for more?
He does have a trade Kicker
http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm based on questions 86 and 87, his trade bonus will count as part of his salary, so if he has a max trade kicker (15% of the remaining value of the contract, excluding option years), then his cap number would be:

$6,322,320 * 1.15 (add in the trade kicker) = $7,270,668.00

So he could be traded for $7,270,668.00 * 1.25 + $100,000 = $9,188,335.00 in salary. This opens up a few more options actually.

Why give up BBD? Sactown is disappointed with Thompson and now with Landry, Cousins, Greene, Brockman and Dalambert they really have no need for more big men. They have a need for a backup PG and have been rumored to be interested in Nate.

Sign and trade Nate with Sheed and keep Davis who continues to show that he is a big game type player and very valuable to this team coming off the bench backing up both the 4 and 5.
Then we need to pick up a back PG

Just a crazy idea, i know:

Sheed contract+Davis for Camby (nice defender, contract expire in with KG and Allen)+Fernandez (athletic, young legs, can shoot...).

Portland would have some cap space this year, much more next year. They can try to sign someone like Shaq (probably he doesn't fit well in Blazers system). We'll have this roster

Rondo/Bradley
Allen/Tony Allen/Fernandez
Pierce/Fernandez/Tony Allen
Garnett/Camby/ J. O'Neal/Harangody
J. O'Neal/Camby/Perkins (when he'll came back)

Solid idea, POR resigned Camby so I think they keep him (that's basically BBD for Rudy and Camby player-wise) and I think they value Rudy more than that. You'd have to add picks. Wouldn't be a huge fan of TA and Rudy as my backup wings/guards... much prefer a guy with size to defend the tough SF in the league. We have options guarding an elite SG (Ray, Pierce, Rondo, TA or AB off the bench.)

Do all of these large trade exceptions make Sheed's contract less valuable?

It seems like teams can get an equal offer elsewhere easily enough. I'm thinking that teams may have to include draft picks to separate themselves from the pack and land the guy they want.

If we can turn Sheed's contract into James Posey, we need to do it. Guarding James and Wade on the perimeter is going to be a nightmare. We need to load up on defenders to give us a chance at stopping them. Posey may be older now, but he is still extremely long, and i'm sure he can defend adequately. If we can have Tony and Posey coming off the bench as Wade and James stoppers, i would feel really good about our chances.

Or give those 8-10 MPG to Avery Bradley

Udonis Haslem
Mike Miller its just a rumor thus far
Shaq O'Neal
Eddie House

Could all help this team, I think we need more help with bigs than with guards if we resign Tony.

Oh wow, I forgot all about his kicker. That is indeed a handy contract to trade. The only area of concern is over just how big of a buyout needs to be involved. The receiving team will have to have that buyout count towards their cap.

TP, well done, well researched.
According to shamsports, it is a 15% trade kicker (but no link).

Now Cs could obtain players like Diaw, Biedrins, Hinrich in a straight up trade (for examples).

I'm really feeling your Jason Thompson love.  If we could turn 'Sheed's retirement and Nate Robinson into him, I would jump up and down in my living room ceaselessly for a good 20 minutes.

I don't know why you say the Kings are disappointed in him, though.  That doesn't make any sense to me.  I feel like this kid is on the verge of blossoming into a star player, and I would guess that the Sactown people are fully aware of this.

With a young core of Evans, Casspi, Thompson and Cousins that team looks to be in really great shape for the future.  I even think that they could be the surprise of this upcoming season and make the playoffs, a la last year's Thunder.

But, hey, if they are disappointed in Thompson and want to give him away for Wallace and Robinson, count me way in on that bandwagon.
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I like Wallace's contract + Davis + a future first rounder for Tayshaun Prince. I'm not at all convinced Joe would go for it though. But I think that would be our best bet.

Boris Diaw's a guy that could be had for Sheed, pretty easily, IMHO.

They've got Chandler, the non-tradable Diop and Mohammed locking up a bunch of money, Ajinca's still guaranteed, they just signed Ty Thomas to an 8 mil per contract, they like Derrick Brown and probably want to give him minutes and of course they have an all-star combo forward locked up long-term in Sheed.

They're also approaching the tax threshold with DJ Augustin as the only PG on the roster and no guard depth (or shooters) whatsoever.

Diaw's a rich man's Luke Walton at this point in his career.  He's developed into a mediocre 3-pt shooter and a good mid-range shooter.  His post-up game is very effective against 3s and he can beat 4s off the dribble or in transition.

Very poor rebounder at the 4 but solid at the 3.  Not too bad defensively.

Nice fit with Rondo offensively, especially if surrounded by shooters.  Both move the ball exceptionally well and pinpoint mismatches.

Could be a minutes eater during the regular season, keeping some wear and tear off of Pierce and KG.

Would add to the mass of expiring contracts coinciding with KG's expiration.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

That's a steep price to pay for a guy who looks like his body might be breaking down.  Great player though.
