Ellis is an awful fit for this team. He's a bad defender, a low efficiency scorer and tremendously undersized as a 2 guard. I would never consider giving up Baby and all that value cap space for Ellis.
Well, that cap space has NO value for us if we can't trade Sheed for something. I don't like giving baby for just Ellis; if the NYK deal falls through, though, I'd do the Sheed/Baby package for Ellis+Randolph.
Or what about Perk+Sheed for Ellis+Wright? Our rotation would then be:
JO/Baby/Kwame
KG/Wright
Pierce/TA
Ray/Ellis
Rondo/Ellis.
Regardless, if it's true that G.S. is really trying to dump Kelene, Turiaf, AND Randolph for the right to give Lee 13 million per year from an already cash-strapped team, i'd be talking to them every day trying to work a deal to take give them Sheed, Baby, and Perk for Biedrins plus two of Kelena/wright/randolph/morrow in some combination. G.S. could potentially save enough in such a deal to dump Biedrins' contract in addition to Turiaf's, give away the same prospects, get more short term pieces (baby and Perk) and still have 9-10 million for free agency this year.
For example:
Sheed, gaffney, Lafayette, Perk, Baby, for Biedrins, Turiaf, Kelene, Randolph would leave G.S. with
Curry/Charlie Bell
Ellis/Reggie Willaims
Ekpe/Vlad Rad
Wright/Baby
Perk/Gadzuric
-Which means only ONE contract guaranteed beyond this year; mega flexibility.
-plus 10 million in pure usable cap space if they renounce watson and morrow.
Boston's lineup in this dream scenario would be
Rondo/Bradley
Ray/TA
Pierce/Azubuike
KG/Randolph
Biedrins/JO/Turiaf
