I like, scratch that, LOVE Rudy Fernandez. He's a high energy guy, a proven winner and leader in Europe, can hit his jumpshots, great locker room guy, and maybe he can be a little streaky at times but can light it up when he gets hot. He would be a great fit for this team, and could spell Pierce and/or Allen.

My question is...can we get him?? There's been alot of talk about this guy, but he is under contract with Portland for this upcoming season. Can we get him? What would we have to do?

Probably two future first round picks.

I doubt Portland is interested in much else that the Celtics have to offer and I don't think one future first is enough to get it done (unless it's far off with very little protection on it).

Mistake. Wanted to put it in this Forum category but messed up.

If not Rudy though, what about Marvin Williams from Atlanta for a backup SG? Then possibly Kuyle Korver?? Don't really like him but he plays hard. One player I'd like to have though is AK47. Has great team skills but dosn't really have the head. but hes a stat sheet filler and does everything. S&T for him?

I said the same thing about AK47 , I think he would be one helluva a move.

I'd be happy with Marvin or Rudy. AK-47 makes something like 18 million-gazillion bucks annually at this point. Good luck figuring out how to match his salary.

It's fair to say no one is offering two first round picks for rudy fernandez -- a guy whose value has dropped, and one who is essentially being openly shopped. would danny even give up one?

would absolutely love to get Rudy Fernandez. I believe he's got a ton of skill and athleticism and has not been used well at all in portland. He would totally thrive playing alongside Rondo and coached by Doc.

Agreed -- nobody is offering two first rounders -- but I also think it's fair to say that Portland are not accepting any offers of a single first round picks. No single middle or late first round picks. Not enough value for Rudy.

It either needs to be a higher pick or a second pick needs to be added on for Portland to bite.

I'd rather focus on a pure SF (preferably one that could play small ball PF) and a combo guard (and rely on Pierce's flexibility to play either wing). I think Rudy is more like a generic SG/SF wing. Don't trust him defending big 3s and I don't trust him as the primary ball handler.

UPDATE: Had we lost Ray, I think Rudy could be a good replacement in the starting lineup. Athletic to run with Rondo and get 'oops, plus a good shooter. Has the tools to defend SGs.

Okay, so if AK47 makes too much, he's out of the picture. Portland might demand too much for Rudy so that's not gonna work. I still like Marvin Williams though.

Iverson, which people continue to bring up, would be the worst case scenario IMO. We dont need a PG!! We need one of the O'Neals. I say that because I doubt either of the Millers ants to take less money to come here. Bring in a back up for Ray and Pierce. Maybe one player that could fit into both positions. We need to sign TA for his defensive work. Ive read the Lakers are very interested in him. I would like to get my man E-House back on the roster as well....

If we can't bring back Nate Robinson then I might consider Allen Iverson, but it would have to be under very favorable terms for the Cs.

AK47 only has one year left... it would be hard to get AK47 now that Utah has lost Boozer, I expect that AK47 will get a bunch of PF minutes there. We could match if very creative, but probably have to give up Baby. (Something like Sheed, Baby, and S&T Tony and/or Nate.) The real problem (besides Utah saying no) is you'd need to still get two Centers and maybe a guard with the MLE and minimums.

I guess you could go with a top 8 of: Perk, KG, Pierce, Ray, Rondo
6th man AK47, first big JO, first guard AB, second big (TBD Vet Min guy)

Iverson is done - cannot play anymore. Pass.

TA is fine to bring back at about the same level he's at now, I wouldn't mind using him as the backup guard until (if) AB is ready, at which point TA can be traded. I don't want the first wing off the bench to be Tony, we need a guy who can bring more to the table offensively and has the size to spell Pierce against the bigger SFs. I'm really high on Marvin Williams for that role - he has the size and speed to become an elite defender - and coming to this team makes you a better defender :) - he can shoot the 3 and is getting better at it, and he's also got a decent ability to get to the hoop. He does both of these without dominating the ball (hence the low assist rate) He can get out and finish on the break and has the size to be a small ball PF. He's also only 24 and is signed through the next three years.

It's looking more and more like any wing we want is going to have to come via a Rasheed trade.  So I'd rule any sign and trades out.  There's no real point in signing and trading someone for cap space (unless there's something bigger going on).
