I've been very critical of Tony Allen in the past, but this year he really started to figure things out and became a valuable piece of the team. As much as I'd like to see him on the Celtics, if he can turn that growth and performance into a nice deal that can set his family up for life, then he should jump on it.
I don't expect the same loyalty with players like TA than with those like Paul or Ray. For Tony, the difference between career earnings of $20 and $30 million is huge (I just grabbed those numbers out of the air), whereas the difference between a career of $120 and $130 for Ray or Paul is much less.
(Although I'd take that $10 million difference if no one else wants it)
