I thought Mike was going to retire after this season but according to Marc Spears it's not the case :

In case you were wondering Celtics fans, veteran free agent swingman Michael Finley is not retiring and still has a strong desire to play.

So, would you resign him for the veteran minimum? And if you did, would you give him some good minutes during the season to rest the starters?

I would be glad to welcome Finley back, he didn't contribute at all in the playoffs but he is a great guy, and for the veteran minimum, on a team that will struggle to fill its roster, he seems useful, even if he doesn't play much. Always helpful to have a shooter on your team (even if he can't guard a chair :P).

I'd like to see him back as the 13th or 14th man and for the Vet Min.

Depends who else we can get to fill out our roster.

Goodness gracious no ... let him leave. Too old, too limited.

Im sure Holyfield still had a strong desire to box also.  Should he?  No.

I"m all for Finley being on board. He can come in and knock down open shots, stays in shape, and is a decent enough defender to warrant a roster spot.

Smart guy, great teammate, consummate pro . . . but I don't think he's really got anything left to offer.

He can barely move anymore. On either side of the ball.

Pass.

If he had anything left to offer, Doc would have given him the opportunity to show it in the playoffs.
Go Celtics.

Exactly ... desire is a great trait, and an essential one to have in the NBA ... but far from the only one. He just doesn't have enough left to make it worthwhile for us. (TP)

Haha. TP.

Finley being on the original playoff roster and somehow falling from that tells me he probably isn't worth it anymore. He really should just retire and be a coach if possible.

agree here, doc has always stuck with vets and I think finley showed he didn't have the chops anymore
wing position is the easiest to fill, would you rather a good vet presence (which he is) in a position where you have to be in incredible shape, play good d and hit j's
or a youngster who can develop either for the team or via trade?
as it stands sg, ray allen, tony allen, nate robinson
finley doesn't fit

Absolutely sign him for the vet min.
He played pretty well during the regular season, helping the starters rest up for the epic playoffs we just had.  Finley will help, without a doubt.  Yes, he may be 12th man or so, but that's fine.
Celtics fan for life.

  • You say when......
The one problem with Finley, he is kinda like wally szcerbak, he can shoot, but he can't do much else, no layups, and can't guard anyone, he is too slow on the feet to cover anyone who he will be against.
