Always like Gomes... Gets the most out of his talent. For the right price, I'd love to see him come back home. The Celtics appear to have a number of decisions on the table which could take this team in any direction. Gomes would be a nice fit either way, going for a title or starting over.
smart smart player
if we are without one way or the other sheed, daniels, scal, nate then why not Gomes. I'd be interested to see what we can get for davis via trade towards sg or c material. I do appreciate the job davis did for us but would like to see Gomes as backup pf with limited minutes at sf. I feel it will depend on contract but he was the main guy I hated to see go. A glue guy.
What type of minutes are there going to be at "backup power forward" for Ryan Gomes? It's nice to talk about that in a general sense, but unless you plan on logging Garnett or Baby heavy minutes at the 5 spot, where exactly are those minutes going to come from? And if he does play the 4, is he going to play next to Baby, two guys probably 6-7 or less who can't block a shot?
I'm not trying to be a jerk, but the bring-back-Gomes committee here doesn't seem to really taking into account how he'd actually fit in here.
TP. I just don't see the need for a guy who really doesn't do much of anything well.
This coming from the leader of the "bring michael beasley here" brigade... So can you explain this one to us, "coach"?
Gomes has peaked while Beasley has incredible talent/upside? Beasley has a much, much bigger payoff if he works out?
This is exactly it. While Beasley isn't ideal because he isn't a pure 3 and doesn't solve our problems at the 5, at least he can be a scoring presence off the bench, which would do a lot to take things off Pierce and Ray.
And I really can't believe there are people on this board thinking we should try trade Big Baby and bring in Ryan Gomes. In case people forgot, Baby, while flawed, has performed extraordinarily well deep in the playoffs while Gomes has played on horrible team after horrible team.
As Coach Bo says, he does a bunch of things OK, but nothing well and as I said, he fills no role on this team. If he wants to come on board as our new Brian Scalabrine at the minimum, so be it. But he's not the answer to any problems we may have if we're going to contend next year.
