So, this offers an interesting question.  If they make this trade of essentially Hinrich for nothing, does that create a $9 million trade exception for the Bulls, even though they are under the cap?  So, could they in theory sign 2 max (or near max) guys, and then still use the trade exception to fill extra holes?

I just wrote this in another thread, but if they get Lebron and one of the big men, I have a feeling they will come knocking on Danny's door to talk sign and trade of Ray for Deng.  And I don't know who would say no in that situation.  Deng might be the better player, but Ray is the better fit on that team.

Man, if their team is Rose, Ray, LeBron, Bosh, and Noah they'll be ridiculous.

The Bulls' franchise could have 10 titles by 2015

You're counting a lot of chickens before they hatch today.

Well, there's not much to hope / dream for as far as the Celtics are concerned, so I'm enjoying the prospects for other teams today.

I'd go with "re-sign Ray, use the MLE, make a trade, and get back to the Finals" over enjoying the prospects of other teams, but that's just me.

What in the world are Washington doing? That is a terrible trade.

How many point guards do they need? Turn the team over to John Wall and let him run with it.

I honestly think this is a worse trade than when the Lakers stole Pau Gasol.

As John Hollinger correctly points out, YESTERDAY, the Oklahoma City Thunder acquired the 18th pick for about 2 million dollars! T

If I thought that were really plausible I'd think that way too.  I just don't see it, though.

Who is going to come through that door via free agency (MLE) or trade that will be the go-to guy the Celtics desperately lacked in the 4th quarter of Game 7?

Who are the Celtics going to acquire that will put them on equal footing with the teams in the East that become juggernauts via free agency?

I don't see the Celtics being good enough to challenge the Lakers next season (barring a miracle), so I'm finding excitement in the prospect of other teams ending Kobe's reign.

Um...unless this trade sets up the Bulls to win back to back titles within the next three years, it can't really be considered worse than the Gasol trade.

On the other hand, it might be the domino that allows the Bulls to win not just two, but three or four titles within the next 5 or 6 years, so who knows.

I understood this for the Wizards until I saw Hinrich still has 2 full years left on his contract. They're willing to take on all of that for a mid first rounder??? Grunfeld is not a good gm. Of that I am confident.

Pretty sure that 2 max free agents alongside Derek Rose, Joakim Noah and either Luol Deng or whover they could get for him could CERTAINLY get them back to back titles, if not A LOT more.

May be a possibility if....THE CELTICS DONT COME BACK AND BEAT THEM IN A EPIC 7 GAME SERIES AGAIN IN THE PLAYOFFS!!  :o

But would Rondo-Ray & Pierce be able to counter Washington's Wall, Arenas & Hinrich look?

Hinrich and Arenas can both play off ball. Hinrich would be a decent fit next to either a Kobe or a Wade - so they may be able to turn around and move Hinrich. Arenas will probably play SG (IMO) until they can con someone into taking him.

Too bad WASH couldn't go Deng, Hinrich, + pick for Arenas...

The Chicago Bulls have to make sure of a backup plan to Lebron James.

If I’m The Chicago Bulls i’m going right after Amare Stoudemire or Carlos Boozer. Both are very good pick and roll guys to pair with Derrick Rose.

Then I’m going at Ray Allen to help allow spacing for Rose...

Rose, Allen, Deng, Stoudemire, Noah

That’s deadly. And this cap space is making it happen

yeah, I'd say the worst case scenario for the Bulls is a core of Rose, Deng, Boozer, and Noah.  That's still pretty dang good.

Almost as likely is Rose / Joe Johnson / Deng / Boozer / Noah and that's pretty fantastic.  Not Rose - LeBron - Bosh - Noah fantastic, but still pretty fantastic.

One way or another, I expect the Bulls to be pretty impressive for the next 4 to 5 years.

Well one of those 3 would have to be coming off the bench or else that would be one small backcourt. I think Hinrich comes off the bench and assuming Tony's back, I think Tony can shut him down from the bench.

I wonder if Washington thinks they can re-package that pick along with Arenas to acquire some other piece?

I'd be leary about keeping Gilbert, seeing how he's basicly not played NBA speed basketball for two straight years now.

I'm not bashing Kirk Hinrich's abilites, but I don't understand why Wash is willing to absorb his contract, cut waaaaaaaay into their own freed up space (which they traded Caron Butler, Brendon Haywood and Antawn Jamison to acquire), and allow Chicago to easily free up enough space for two max free agents and just get the 17th pick in what's widely considered a miserable draft class.

Kirk Hinrich is a player/contract you consider taking on in you're a serious contender. Not a lottery bound team, who could potentially have signed a max free agent.
