KG is still a top 5-8 PF in the NBA. The guy has proven this post season that he can still ball.

If the C's wanted to do a salary dump, I could see Dallas, Denver or Utah making a trade for him for an expiring package of Dampier/Butler/Martin/Kirilenko, so that they have a legit shot at getting past the Lakers.

I'm not sure that Boston is ready to hit the blow up button yet though.

I would be fine with moving KG to get out of his contract. He will be extremely overpaid in the season after the next one. If we feel we don't have a chance to win it all next year, seems reasonable.

We might have been better off NOT extending KG when we traded for him, and waiting instead. He would have wanted to re-sign anyway and we might have had him for less $$ due to injury.

I don't about the year after next part.  I think aging is hard to predict if we're talking about one year apart.....If the Celts have an off year sort of year next year, little playoff actio, for example, he could very well come back stronger for his final year.  It's conceivable to me that of this year, next year and last, last could end up the best. (I'm rating this year pretty low and still thought he helped a lot).  Of course, if the Celts either wear themselves out next year or just start really sucking, then KG would probably traded at some point before or during his final year..

Agree with your above post.  There are teams in the West that Kevin can probably help now even more than the Celtics....Salary-wise maybe just the team's you listed.  they would just need to gamble a bit on his health.

I agree about Boston is not quite ready to blow it up...on a side note, speaking of Dallas,if they had gotten to the Lakers in this recent playoffs,i think there would have been a different team coming out of the west in the finals.(imo)tp

trade KG and Paul likely will opt out - he's not into rebuilding
depends on what we get though.  What if it is Chris Paul?

Boston trades Garnett, Rondo, Sheed
Boston receives Chris Paul, Okafor, Posey

Toronto trade Hedo, Banks
Toronto receives Garnett

New Orleans trades Paul, Okafor, Posey
New Orleans receives Al Jefferson, Rondo, Sheed

Minnesota trades Jefferson
Minnesota receives Hedo, Banks

According to trade machine on ESPN this works (if made now)

It allows the C's to then move Perkins before or after the draft in a trade to get a new starting PF.  Obviously pieces can be adjusted as teams see fit.  The only thing I wasn't sure about was Hedo to Minnesota.  Minny needs a SF I'm just not sure they want Hedo as that SF.

It may set us back a bit next year, but Pierce has got to like a team that has Chris Paul going forward and depending on what happens with Perkins in a separate move, it may not even set us back.

Wow no offense but, this horrible from a fan.  Basketball wise as well.  Posey would be back though...

Obviously nothing like this could happen but, I just find the concept of you what you are proposing to be very disrespectful as a fan of this team.  Just my opinion but, I would rather lose with them getting old rather than lose with worse talent.
The Celtics get the best player in the trade (and a top 5 player in the league who is just entering his prime), a starting center in his prime, and a well liked 6th man from the championship team.  I'm not sure how that is disrespectful at all.  KG will be better then Okafor next year, but not 2 or 3 years from now (not to mention Okafor is cheaper).  It also allows Boston to move Perkins and not feel the need to get a center back, so they have a lot more options.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner
