Sign and trade.

Convince Lebron that he could lead the Celtics to multiple titles with Rondo, Pierce, KG and Perk.

Then Lebron forces Cleveland to sign and trade him to Boston for Ray.

I would give the chance of that happening about at the same level as lightning striking you while you are stranded on the moon.

Cleveland will refuse any S&T.

They say that now.

I bet once they are faced with Lebron leaving for something or nothing, they will take something.

I am not sure of how/if Sheed retiring would affect the cap, but if his number comes off the books and Pierce opts out, max FA's are feasible. Would put us at about 40 mil in guaranteed salary/cap holds.

I don't think they're bluffing. I think they go into complete "blow it up" mode if he leaves.

Its certainly making the rounds that all these free agents will be sign and trades as they will make more money over time that way and not screw the team they are leaving. So yeah anything is possible including LeBron. I would bet good money that IF Lebron leaves Cleveland he will do it as a sign and trade so that Cleveland gets something back. He can therefore call his destination, he'll go where he wants and whoever wants him will make the trade work under cap rules. Do we have contracts that can work? We sure do.

And I have little doubt we structured Sheeds contract knowing full well that he'd retire now. He said at least twice this year that he was "glad this STUFF is almost over." DA knew very well that this will be about sign and trades not as much about space under cap

The only thing that would surprise me is us doing almost nothing.

Do I think we get LeBron? No but I think we will at least get a very good player on a sign and trade and also get a good player on the mle and I think there is an outside shot of getting someone like a PJ Brown beyond those two additions.

In any case I would put a Lebron James with Ray Allen
leaving out Paul Pierce .. why?
Ray Allen can sign for a 8-9 year contract
can be achieved and Lebron .. starting with the contract
5 seasons for $ 96millones ...
have only committed to Garnett and Rondo for 2012
.. And most important is to start looking for young players

wahz, not sure I agree that Lebron would want a S&T so that Cleveland gets something back. Any asset his new team gives up detracts from that team and consequently Lebron's supporting cast for a title. Could happen, but don't think Lebron agrees to it.

new plan based on the unrealistic possibility of Bron in Boston.

...

Ray walks (NY or Miami or something)
Pierce opts out and signs with the Clippers

Boston has the following under contract:
KG - 18.8 mil
Sheed - 6.3 mil (retiring)
Perk - 4.3 mil
Davis - 3.3 mil
Rondo - 9 mil

=  41.7 mil

... draft a SG at #19

Trade Perk (expiring), Davis (expiring) and Sheed (retiring) for a signed-and-traded Chris Bosh (Toronto takes what they can get for Bosh)

Sign LeBron to a max contract

Bosh - C
KG - PF
Bron - SF
Some Bum at #19 - SG
Rondo - PG

fill the rest with min contract players.

Actually I don't think that even works, because we have to factor in the money #19 makes

Then you stop playing 2k10, turn off the Xbox, and start watching the NBA Draft to see what actually happens.

My plan if Pierce and Allen sign elsewhere:

Trade KG and Perk to Denver for Kenyon Martin, Ty Lawson, Anothy Carter (S&T) and a 2014 unprotected 1st rounder. Buy-out Kenyon Martin so he can return to Denver...

The Lakers need to be stopped.

Just a quick question...

PP can opt out and then we sign Lebron because Allen's contract is off the books. After the Lebron signing, we re-sign Allen. Since Allen's new contract won't count against the cap, we still follow the cap rules right?

This situation won't work if Ray is resigned first, because it will count towards the cap?

There is a thing called a cap hold - basically your unsigned FA have a big salary that counts against your cap until you resign them or renounce them or they sign elsewhere. So basically Ray Allen and Pierce would count MORE against the cap before they resign (since they'll likely sign smaller deals.)

- Sheed retires

- Let Ray walk (this move is obvious unless we're bringing back the same starting five for another title run, which Danny will do, but I think he's looking for other options)

- Pierce opts out, if he knows Ray and Sheed are gone and KG is halfway out the door, Pierce would want to opt out. He's been through the tough days in Boston, he's done with that.

- Trade KG, and then we have room for two max FA's. I know I've said this in other forums but KG is perfect for Dallas, the type of player Cuban would love and wouldn't mind paying for 2 more years while he makes the last run at a ring with Dirk, J Kidd, Caron, and Marion (that would be an all-star starting 5).

Dallas could trade us Dampier's non guaranteed contract, who we could then cut and turn into cap room.

Our only players under contract would be Rondo, Perk, Baby, and a filler from Dallas (Deshawn Stevenson probably)

Bosh and Lebron could both then sign with us. or Lebron and Joe Johnson.

As a side note, yes it gets old when people keep asking the same questions, but no need to jump all over someone. They're Celtic fans too, and just because they don't necessarily know all the ins and outs of the L like some of us do, doesn't mean they need to be attacked. I mean this forum should be way more welcoming sometimes.

And posts where people say "this is definitely not happening" or "no way Lebron comes to Boston" are just illogical and unnecessary. Clearly its not likely, but it is definitely possible. If you don't think its likely, say so and say why. Don't say "Lebron isn't coming! This post is stupid"
