Shaves a ton of money off the long term payroll of the Hornets.  Perkins will probably be looking for a salary similar to that of Okafor on his next contract and at the moment Okafor is actually healthier so that doesn't affect much from the C's end (they are very similar players) and New Orleans can either let him walk or re-sign him (depending on what happens with the ownership).  Paul is better then Rondo so the C's upgrade there though obviously losing Davis is a bit painful, but he can be replaced on the open market (maybe Ty Thomas or someone like that).  If Sheed retires the C's don't have him anyway and New Orleans gets a ton more cap relief.

Then sign-and-trade pierce for LeBron
Trade KG for a sign-and-traded Bosh
Sign and trade Ray for a sign and traded Joe Johnson

And you go with

PG - CP
SG - Joe Johnson
SF - Bron
PF - Bosh
C - Okafor

come on now, my proposal isn't that far fetched at all.  Rondo is a top five PG (not Paul, but not crap).  Perkins is younger cheaper and more ruggid defensively then Okafor (though they are similar in most respects).  Davis is a quality backup for Perk and West.  It isn't a bad trade at all for New Orleans and saves them a ton of cash.

It's hard to quantify defense - but rebounding and steals are factored into various stats (like PER.)

Let's say there is a third team and the C's send Rondo there with another young talent going to NO, plus Perk and Sheed, and maybe a S&T for Scal to the third team to make salaries match. Then you get something like:

Okafor, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, CP3

Bench: BBD, MLE, Tony Allen, Nate

What I like is CP3s shooting lets you play Tony a lot more without a drop off (our offense fell apart with Rondo and TA in the game.)

I think that team is probably good enough to win it all next year. I just don't know how you quantify the drop off from Rondo to CP3 in D, and I don't know how you assess the injury risks - CP3 has missed a lot of time, but Rondo seems like a perpetually banged up guy.

Can you trade Pierce's contract to another team?  I thought if we trade Pierce to the Clippers then his 21.5 mil would have to go to the clippers.
