Yes -- Paul's superior shooting ability + scoring mentality would be a better fit for this team. He would give the Celtics a better chance at winning another title and one heck of a piece to build around once they split up in two years time.

I was talking about this exact trade last night, I would do this trade in a heartbeat. While I love Rondo once Paul and Ray leave we are going to be  really looking for offense. Not only can Paul pass the ball just as good as Rondo, Paul can score and shoot the ball much better than Rondo. Paul can create his own shot and knock down 3's. While I wouldnt trade Rondo for much Paul is one player I would definitley move him for.

No. But that's why I can never be a GM because I'm completely incapable of making a decision devoid of sentiment. The margin by which Paul could potentially be better isn't large enough to make up for the mountain of intangible things I love about Rajon.

No thanks.

Chris Paul has the same mentality as Chris Bosh - "I NEED TO BE THE MAN".

Sure CP3 is a great passer, but at the end of the day he hoists a lot of terrible shots he has no business taking. I don't think CP3 is capable of ever playing the defense Rondo already can play, nor do I think anyone in the league is as exciting to watch as Rondo.

Hard choice but its about winning right now.I feel CP3 could come in and make an immediate impact on this team with better scoring, something this team needs.Inconsistency has been my issue with Rondo and he'll probably work it out in time.

Our offense stagnates when Rondo doesn't run---Apparently, he Cannot or WILL NOT run all the time---thus, scoring droughts occur--Because he CAN"T shoot or is afraid to shoot...Teams know this, and it allows them to set up their defense easily.

CP3 would cancel these scoring droughts and make us MUCH better offensively----even though Rajon is exciting and a great passer.

Unless Paul has some sort of lingering injury that we don't know about, then I would trade for him in 1 second.  He is dominant, not quite Kobe or Lebron but right there with DWade.

Rondo is a fine player but he still can't shoot.  He might learn to shoot and if he does, he could approach Paul's impact.  He might not too and if he doesn't, Rondo will remain solid but not close the the caliber of Paul.

It shocks me that so many would prefer Rondo over Paul.

CP3 to Orlando?

I don't buy it, but then again you never know.

It's a scary thought.

I'm a huge fan of CP3, but i feel he's better suited in New Orleans. he's the face of the franchise, and trading him would be a HUGE mistake.

Its an easy yes.  Your so called future franchise player can't shoot from outside of 10 feet on a regular basis after being in the league 4 years, and shoots around 25% from the line in the finals just isn't it.

I'd easily trade Rondo for the likes of Paul, Deron Williams, Nash, Jennings, Nelson, Westbrook, and Rose straight up.  Other PG's I'd consider trading straight up for him, but might not be 100% sure of would be Curry, Brooks, Harris, Calderon, Parker, and Billups.

Rondo is a star player, but he's not a franchise level player and theres a difference that some people on this blog seem to forget.  Now I'm happy with Rondo on this team with the current squad,or as a 3rd/4th option but the day we say he's our franchise piece we build around is the day we're struggling to make the playoffs/lottery team.  His inability to shoot from outside 8-10 feet hurt us big time in the finals and was one of the top reasons IMO we lost.

Ummm... Jennings and Westbrook?  Wow. And even to consider Brooks and Calderon shock me.  Rondo is a game changer.  He can and has dominated playoff games on both sides of the floor.  I've never seen Brooks nor Calderon do that.  Billups for one season is a maybe, but considering that he's on the decline and Rondo is still improving makes the thought of that deal crazy.  I wouldn't personally do it for Parker, Curry, Harris, or Nelson either, but at least I guess you could argue them.  The ones I've just mentioned though - no effing way.

I say yes and here's why.

Rondo has played absolutely magnificently over the past 2 years.  All-star level and proven game changing ability in the playoffs which is not common.  Before injuries, Chris Paul had also played at that level.

BUT, Rondo played at that level while playing alongside 2-3 HOF players near their primes.  Chris Paul played at that level alongside David West, Tyson Chandler, Peja, etc.  There is a huge difference in how much Chris Paul had to do himself to be playing at that level vs. how much Rondo had to do himself to be playing at that level.  If Rondo wanted/needed a play off, he'd hand it off to PP to isolate.  His assists came from the high fg% of HOF players.  Paul had to be at it all game every game.  If not, his team would lose, no questions about it (even if Jannero Pargo goes off for 30).  Rondo's team would still have a chance.  I think its largely in question if Rondo could put up the kind of numbers that would keep his team competitive without an all star cast surrounding him.  And lets face it, in a few years, he won't.

A key argument for wanting Rondo would be the salary.  That makes it arguable at the least and never quite the "no-brainer" that people say.  Rondo makes 64% of what Paul does next season.  I'd still make the trade though.  Paul is a true franchise player you can always build around.
