He will be worse than Perk on offense. He won't contribute much on defense. He is simply not capable of making it on the NBA level. He has the same projected career arc as Tyler Hansbrough, only with less potential and opportunity for longevity. Please do not draft him, he is a scrub. You can see in his college games that he is simply NOT a cut above the rest of the players out there, the way John Wall was, the way Kevin Durant was. Greg Oden didn't dominate enough for me to be sold on him either. So far he's looking useless as well. Please don't draft Cole Aldrich, for the love of God, don't.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Seriously. I'm sorry, but I have to bump this. I bet anything he falls short of expectation.

What are the expectations for Aldrich?

I think you're safe.  :)

I haven't seen anything that would suggest he is on the Celtics radar at all. Looks like he'll be gone before Boston picks too.

You mean Cole Aldrich isn't a once-every-few-years #1 draft pick?  Well, phew, that's good to know...unless perhaps you're picking 19th!

Cole Aldrich is one of the safest bets out there to be a quality NBA big man for years to come.  He is not going to ever be a star, or anything close, but if you are looking for a Nick Collison type contributor, he is your man.  If he fell to 19, the C's would be absolutely thrilled, but its not happening.

That is my outlook on Aldrich too. I think he'll be a good-to-very good role player in the NBA. Provide quality rebounding + quality interior defense + solid complementary scoring. A nice contributor.

Not a star but a good complementary player.

Agreed.  He is also a better offensive player than given credit for.  His sophomore year he was actually pretty good offensively.  Averaging 15 on 60% fg and 79% from the ft line.  This year his ft% dipped to about 69% so its tough to tell which one shows his ability better while his fg% at 56%.  We need to remember Kansas' team last year was pretty stacked and just because he chose to be the #3/#4 option doesn't mean he doesn't have offensively ability.  Also, I wouldn't mind the c's trading up a little to get him.  I think he's a player that can help us right away with Perkins injury.  Even if he just turns into a Joel Pryzbilla type player, I think that he would be very useful on our team.
do it

Aldrich won't drop that far, but if he did, you'd have to grab him. Very good summary of his talent.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

I am very excited to see how he pans out, then, guys.

I'm willing to stick my neck out there and eat crow if I have to:

he will fail, he is a scrub.

Nick Collison, his NBA prototype, is an 8th or 9th man. Anytime you have the chance to draft a player with a ceiling of a middling bench player in the lottery, you gotta take it....

When I watched Wesley Matthews play at Marquette, he was a cut above the rest of the players on the floor. It wasn't glaringly obvious in the way it was with Durant, but you could tell. I wanted the Celtics to take Matthews at #30. They took Giddens. Facepalm.

Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Matthews was eligible for the draft last year and not the year we had the 30th pick...are you thinking of someone else?

No, I am definitely thinking of Matthews. Whatever pick we had last year, I wanted the Celtics to take Matthews. Liked desperately. And the year we took Giddens I wanted us to take Chalmers.

Interesting thread about Cole..I'd love for him to drop to us, though, just like another Kansas Alum did.....

Henry would be a very nice long term replacement for Ray Allen.

He looks like a better version of Brandon Rush. Better shooter and more efficient offensive player.
