TP may be a jerk, but he's right.  You'd be crazy to choose Rondo over Parker in a straight-up trade.  Do you remember his Finals MVP performance in 2007?  And his 3 rings?

Also, whoever said Rondo is currently better than Nash... please.  Nash could hit 27% of his free throws kicking the ball.

I'm not sure why so many people are such fans of the kid.  Yes, he's supremely athletic but he can't shoot and makes spiteful plays (PASS IT TO PAUL!).  He's got an attitude I'd rather live without.

But whatever, if he can win me a championship I'll take it.

Welcome to Celticsblog.  Did you buy a Celtic jersey yet or are you waiting until the finals are over?

HA!  THAT's a Tommy Point!

People are fans of Rondo because he's a game changer.  Even when he's having a mediocre night by his standards, he can change a game with one play, like with his tip in over the entire Lakers defense in Game 5.

Wow really, why are we fans of him? I don't know maybe because he's arguably been our most important player this year and is the reason we are even this far into the playoffs right now. Also for every "spiteful play" I'd say he makes about 10 spectacular/good ones.
If Ron Artest weren't Ron Artest, he would've fouled Rondo.  And Rondo would have missed his two "freebies", opening the game wide up for Kobe to be a hero yet again.  What if they wised up and just started hacking him?

It bothers me when players can't make free throws.  It's like they're telling me they're lazy and just don't care.

Yes, Rondo makes the majority of our highlight-reel plays but are you actually suggesting you'd take RR over PP or KG?  That's ludicrous to me.

Oh really, you'll take it?  You should be thanking your lucky stars we have Rondo not shooting him down and saying "oh well I guess I'll put up with it if it brings us a ring"?

Be a little more grateful bud...He already brought us one ring and has played one of the most historical playoff games ever this post season and has our team in position to win another ring.

You're right, you would have to be CRAZY to trade Rondo for Parker straight up.

And how do you know he would have automatically missed both free throws? Yes he's been horrible from the line but he's shown that he can hit them in the regular season, and through the start of the playoffs. Really it was the beginning of the Orl series where he started to drop off in his free throw percentage.

Not sure what your point about taking RR over PP/KG is. They aren't really comparable, but that doesn't mean that Rondo hasn't been our most consistent player this year. And at this stage of their careers, yes I would.

The reason Artest didn't foul Rondo is because Rondo faked him out of his jock strap. Rewatch that play. Rondo used every bit of his football ability to head fake and quickstep right past Artest and then was smart enough to give up the ball before anyone got within 10 feet of him.

And if I am starting a team right now, yes, I start with a 24 year old Rondo over a 32 year old Pierce or a 34 year old KG. No brainer in my book.

You're Rondo hate sure seems to be better placed in 2007 than in 2010. Like it(and I'm sure you don't) or not, but Rondo has turned himself into one of the best playoff performers in the league and a top 4 PG and a top 20 player in this league.

Bill Russell shot 56% from the line. Now THERE is a lazy basketball player.

Yeah, I am certainly one of his bigger detractors on here, and think he has gone from incredibly underrated to incredibly overrated, however, that does not change the fact that he is just an outright playmaker.  He has flaws, and I think they are covered up a lot playing on such a great team, but there is no denying the fact that he makes big plays when big plays need to be made.

Russell & Wilt lived in a time when no one had thought of abusing free throw shooting.  Lack of free throw shooting is a significant stain on Shaq's (and to a much lesser extent Duncan's) capability to win games for their team down the stretch.

It also bothers me because he has SO MUCH potential and hope he learns to start shooting better all-around.  If he does, he could be one of the best players in the league.

I think we are just misinterpreting Tony Parker.  I think what he's trying to say is that in 2009, the best team didn't win, because their best player was injured.

Kind of an aside, but I don't think Artest could have fouled Rondo if he'd tried. Rondo was moving too fast.

Random rules question, but if Artest fouled him before he caught the ball, but while it was still in the air, would it have been a technical foul?  I know they can't foul someone off the ball in the last two minutes, but would that count?

I agree though, it would have been incredibly hard to foul Rondo in that situation without either giving a hard foul, or allowing him to get an and-1.  He was already in his shooting motion pretty much when he caught it.

edit: I thought this was talking about a different play...but the question still stands.
