I myself do not taunt other fans, I see no point in it, but I do not begrudge those who do.

I begrudge it.  It's completely classless.  Fans can be passionate without insulting other fans, or family members of their opponents.  I've seen some of the things that go on in Boston, NY, and Philly, and it's frankly disgusting to me.

My only real experience of being in "enemy territory" as an adult was Game 1 of the 2000 ALCS at Yankee Stadium.  I ended up talking baseball with the guys sitting around me the whole game.  I cheered when the Sox did something good, and was generally drowned out by 50,000 screaming fans when the Yankees did something good.  I had a great time.

I did, however, see a Sox fan being horribly harassed by a guy sitting next to him (just a few rows ahead of me).  The guy was minding his own business too.

I actually admire someone who's not afraid to go into enemy territory.  They paid for their seat, they should be entitled to cheer for their team.

I've been to a few other road games of teh Pats, Celts, and Sox and have generally been treated respectfully, and any ribbing was good natured.  A lot depends on your own attitude and who you end next to.
Yup

it isnt cool that it happened, however, being a family member of an opposing player in the other arena.....u shouldnt have to, but reality is, u have to expect things like this from time to time, especially in the playoffs where the fans are more vocal, invested, intense, and sometimes intoxicated.

not condoning it by any means, but you have to have the mindframe that these things might happen and have a gameplan for when it does.

Anyone else feel like Reddick told Ray during the game hoping it would throw his game off.

That's how I interpreted it too.  Why would he even mention it to Ray or know about it?  My guess was to get him thinking about it.

Not sure why he automatically should be commended for thinking he was actually concerned for Ray's family's safety.

Redick was notoriously heckled at Duke, and that extended to his family.  I know he complained about it (the insults directed at his sister, I believe) on PTI.

I don't doubt his sincerity here.  Even though it's a competition, to some of these guys family and mutual respect trumps.

The only time to ever give opposing fans grief is when they are being overly obnoxious. You can stand up and cheer a good play by your team. But some people take it to a new level and start to antagonize the home team fans and rub it in their faces. A Lakers fan kept saying something along the lines of "your star player is soft. KG's a (p word.)" That's the only time I've ever ribbed the opposing fans and I did it in a classier way than they did with sarcastic one liners after a bad play by their team. Very low key responses.

Gotta say that I went to Detroit for the ECF's two years ago and the people were very, very cool from the usher on down to the people around us.

What we're seeing with the Magic fans is a group of people that don't know how to act like they've been there before. I read stories of their fans starting fights with ours last year as well.

Ray's Mom may actually have a problem in the stands and you guys think Redick told Ray that simply to throw him off his game? I thought you guys were better than that... :(

Maybe the fans legitimately thought Ray Allen was somehow sitting in the seats with a wig on while also playing the game....

His mother looks EXACTLY like him.

Falling in line with Roy and DL here.

I could JJ going to Ray and saying something like "Hey heard through security behind the bench that your mom and family were being harassed by some punks. Just wanted to let you know that they were moved and everything is okay. Stuff we have to go through some times huh?"

Both of these guys seem like genuinely nice guys, family guys. When it comes to player and family harassment over sports, the NBA players usually get into it's an us against the world thing and support each other to the hilt over them.

I think there is a differance between talking trash and harrasing. Personally I like to talk trash at games. For exsample, I went to see the Pats play the Steelers a few years back when the Steelers destroyed the Pats and ended their 17 game winning streak. Even when the Pats were down like 20 somthing points in the 4th I was still talking, but I was never rude. It's can just be fun to verbally spar with other people. I went to the tailgate before the game and I was the only Pats fan there. We had a lot of good natured ribbing but everyone seems to understand, it was in good fun.
Now I would never speak badly about someone's family or let it get to the point where someone was getting mad. I've heard thoughs jerks at games and agree that they should be tossed. You need to watch what you say and who you say it to. Not everyone likes joking back and forth. It sounds to me that these fans went over the top and were insulting and that's not fun any more.

I was in the Nets Celtics game where the Cs made the biggest come back in NBA history.  There was a couple of Nets fans sitting in front of us.  When they were winning they were happy, getting up and cheering and so on.  Then when they started losing, the entire section got on them.  It was never something mean though and I actually left with a respect for the couple.  In the end they were sitting in their seats, very upset.  However they did leaving saying the Celtics earned it.

I think you're right about him respecting Ray.  I remember reading somewhere that Ray was one of the players he watched closely to help him with his own game.

Also, Ray's mom lives in the Orlando area, so I'm sure it's not the first Celtics/Magic game she's attended there.  Wonder if it's the first time the family has been harassed or if it's a common occurrence and only getting attention now because it's the playoffs.
