Orlando fans already have proven a little too confrontational for several members of the Celtics entourage.

Ray Allen’s mother, brother-in-law and brother were forced to move to another section in the first half of Game 1 after the latter was involved in a verbal confrontation with several hecklers.

NBA security, after a call from Annemarie Loflin, Rivers’ assistant and a former member of the Orlando organization, quickly found the group new seats.

“(Magic guard) J.J. Redick told me during the game that my mom’s group had got into a scuffle,” Allen said. “Fans were shouting at her, talking trash, rooting for their team. NBA security did a good job of getting them out of there.”

Thank God most people have more class than this, but it's a shame that a few jerks have to ruin it for everyone else. Such people should be ashamed of themselves, and not allowed to buy tickets, (or beer). ;) I feel bad for Ray's family ... they are good people.

I love trash talking other teams fans. But never would I take it to the level of where the person had to be moved.

This really sickens me to the core.  I wonder if these hecklers were heckling Ray's family about Ray's kid? I mean, I'm sure they're heckled in opposing stadiums from time to time - the fact that they responded must mean something.

Props is in order to the Amway Arena security, Doc's assistant and JJ Redick.  I have a friend who casually follows the whole NBA, and when he heard that JJ had the class to have concern enough about the situation to tell Ray about what happened, he was impressed.  Needless, to say, my perception of JJ has taken an upturn.

Anyways, stupid fans.  If they were saying something mean about Ray's kids, I hope they feel really bad about what they were saying..

Fans like that should be ejected.  If it's an entire section, then toss the entire section.

I've got no problem with booing, or even heckling, players.  I do draw the line at harassing other fans, however.

Would be sweet for Ray to have a another 25-30 pt. night and blow out the Magic.  That will teach their fans not to harass Ray's family. ;D

  • You know my methods, Watson.
The article is pretty vague - no details, just "a scuffle."  That could mean anything...

Fans are fans.  I'm sure our beloved Celtics fans can be pretty rough, so I'm not going to jump on the Orlando fans.  NBA security found Ray's family new seats, but it doesn't sound like anything was done to those fans...

...which tells me it was common "heckling" and though we may not like it (protecting our own) maybe it wasn't anything more than the run-of-the-mill stuff that's been said elsewhere.

And let's be honest: don't you think there's a "tinge" of Ray's mother that "might" bring that upon her?  Afterall, she doesn't really choose to live in anonymity, and as the parent of a well-known professional athlete, if she expects to walk into the building of the opponent and get treated like royalty she's crazy...

I honestly see nothing wrong here...  It's good old-fashioned stuff that 20 years ago we would not only expect, but shake it off as no big deal.

(Now, if the article had provided more details of what was said and those things "crossed a line" then that's another story...)

Ray's mom looks like she can handle herself though, some dumb orlando fans might get more than they bargained for.

Why would anyone heckle a fan in the stands?  I don't get it.  They aren't competing with your team.

I don't see the big deal.  If Lebron's mom had come to Boston during the Cavs series, I'd almost be disappointed if some fans hadn't heckled her about the Delonte West rumor.

Horrible behavior by the fans. Unfortunately it seems to be something fans across the country do, even those right here in Boston. I seem to remember Jason Kidd's family taking a lot of grief in the early 2000's in the Garden.

This is why family shouldn't travel for road games. Remember what happened to Jason Kidd's family here in Boston? Granted Jason had just been arrested for beating his wife so the jeers were more directed at him, but if you remember they stopped coming to games in Boston and none of us felt bad. I Still don't, if you come to other team's arenas, don't expect to not hear things you don't like (Especially if your son TJ is one of the most bizarre looking children I have ever seen and the TV broadcast is constantly showing him and saying how cute he is, I mean the kid had a freaking mustache! A baby with a mustache?! There is something seriously wrong with that, and it sure as hell ain't cute.)

I myself do not taunt other fans, I see no point in it, but I do not begrudge those who do. We all always say that the garden needs to step up and push the team, well if it becomes known that Boston is a soft game to go to where you can feel comfortable, then you are opening the flood gates for opposing fans. I like the idea of other teams fans not feeling comfortable at the Garden, I don't want them there, especially in the playoffs. Do not expect to walk in with a Lebaby James jersey and not be ridiculed for the entire game, you knew it was going to happen, you deserve it. Whenever I have gone to a game to support the away team I expect and accept any and all abuse I get, in fact I would have less respect for the fans if they did not.

However, I do draw the line at physical contact, and it's always better to avoid mean spirited aggressive taunting, keep it funny and keep it about the game.

You definitely have to draw a line somewhere, and family's it.

Anyone else feel like Reddick told Ray during the game hoping it would throw his game off.
