If Paul Pierce restructures his contract for next season 21 mill it's possible to get 1 of the big free agents this offseason. Or atleast thats what Avery Johnson was saying on Mike & Mike this morning. Now if this is true, I know 21 mill for one season is alot of money to walk away from if your Paul or any player for that matter. But two things come to mind when thinking about why Paul could or would do this. He might think he kinda owes it to the C's brass for sticking with him and doing everything they could to make him happy and a champion. Second is that all the big three especially Paul know to be known as a true Celtics legend you need multiple titles and if they win it all this year he will have 2 rings and that enough to do it but like all players who have 1 ring or 2 they are still hungry for more and that will be harder to do without adding a young big time playa this offseason when so many teams are in the hunt to land one or two

I truely think he would do this if it's possible to do like I heard it was.
Its not true. Let me go find the links to threads that break down why.

Avery Johnson is incorrect.

Well Avery said opts out of his contract. not restructures my bad but even WYC said they could be players in the free agent market this offseason. So I will believe him over most.

Wyc's comments came before we signed BBD and Rasheed.  Those acquisitions changed our cap situation drastically.

It was also before Rondo's extension.

Ah, that's right, as well.

And even before all those signings, we wouldn't have had any major cap room unless Paul took a deal well below market value.  Now, with those signings on the books, it's basically impossible.

Those comments were this year not last. I remember. Also last time people said something was not gonna happen was before KG rolled into town. You would be crazy to think WYC & co, are just gonna let the Knicks, Heat, Bulls, ect ect (all eastern confrence teams by the way) just load up while their team does nothing but get older.

Why would LeBron choose to go to Boston to play with anyone but Rondo? If he wanted to come to Boston, it would be to play WITH Rondo. The only logical deal would be Pierce for Lebron. Regadless, I can't see the Cavs taking either Deng or Pierce for LeBron. Deng's a nice player, but he's overpaid and more of a deferential 2nd / 3rd option type. They'll need to rebuild if Lebron leaves and would prefer cap space.

If cap space and other things didn't matter, there are only TWO PLAYERS I would trade Rondo for straight up...

Kevin Durant or D-Wade.

Those two guys know how to win just as much as Rondo. Both are young, hall of fame talent like Rondo is showing to be in the last two postseasons. They know how to play on a team.

Lebron's the best player in the league and we'd have to at least give this one a nibble and see what Ferry would say.

My question is this: wouldn't Rondo's poison pill provision be gone on July 1st? Perhaps I just don't understand it, but he will go up to 9 mill for the 2010-2011 season and the Trade machine says the PPP expires july 1st, 2010. Does he then become a BYC player?

I am quite sure that Lebron would have an interest in playing with Paul and KG. They would be much better teammates then he has ever had. Sure, if Bosh and DWade were the other choice he might go there instead but saying that he wouldnt consider Boston if they had to deal Rondo to make it happen is not accurate. I would trade Rondo for Lebron in a heartbeat and I love Rondo. Guys like Lebron come along rarely and if you can get him you do anything you can to do so.
