Wont happen. Celtics could never get that lucky.

Probably true, but at least Rondo has that much value now. We can be in on any talks if a top 5 player becomes available because we have a young stud pg. The only players I would trade rondo for straight up would be Durant, Lebron, Dwight Howard , Wade and MAYBE D Williams.
Nah Rondo has Dirk's value. When Dirks contract gets done this summer it will be the around the same annual value as Rondos.

Maybe same salary wise but at this point Rondo has much more trade value because he is 10 years younger....

Nope. Rondo doesnt have as much trade value as you think. What do you think we could get for just Rondo?

If he finishes the playoffs as strong as he has started him he will have a ton of trade value. Of course those teams wouldn't trade Durant,Lebron,Wade or Howard under normal circumstances, but if they knew they were going to leave via free agency Rondo would definitely be one of the top offers they could get.

Would LeBron want to come here if Rondo and Ray were leaving? He's obviously not going to play guard (especially pg) and we'd be left with LeBron/Paul/KG/Perk. That team contends for one year, maybe two, then it's LeBron and scraps again.

I don't think it would be a problem with him at PG. He would be a 6'8 pg . There aren't many pg's in the league as fast as rondo, so I think he can definitely defend most pg's. Plus that would create so many mismatches for the opposing defense with a roster of

Pg ; Lebron
SG: Mike Miller
SF: PP
PF: KG
 C: Perk

Like you said that team would have 2 years as title contenders, BUT then in 2012 you would only have Perk and Lebron under contract allowing the C's to rebuild very quickly through free agency.

2012...so we'd have Lebron and Perk. Then go after Melo and BOOM, back in business! Over the next two years, we could also develop a PF and SG from drafts/trades.

ahhhhh

Who am I kidding? Bron will never wear green
Can't stop, Rondo!

LeBron isn't a pg. And there aren't many pgs quite as quick as Rondo but there are a lot of them quicker than LeBron. It's not what he does. People here constantly complain about Rondo, best defensive pg in the league, because they think he does a poor job of keeping pgs in front of him. By those standards LeBron would be a disaster. And that's assuming he wants to come into a situation where the only two good players on the roster were 33 and 34, and both were hobbled by injuries for the past year or two.

Yea I guess a trade of Rondo PP and #19 for lebron would make more sense for the c's and maybe the cavs too . Then you could have TA start at PG for defense. You would still have Ray as a shooter and Lebron, KG and Perk in the front court.

Nooooo.  LeBron is amazing but I never want him to be on my team.  I would feel sick rooting for the guy.

I don't see why trading Rondo for a free agent makes sense in any way, shape or form.

Why wouldn't it, if the return in a sign-and-trade was Lebron or Wade?

We have a great young PG, but he's not close to the best player in the NBA.

When has a young player anywhere near as good as Rondo been sent away in a sign and trade deal?

If the Celts have the opportunity to get Lebron (and I doubt they do), they should gladly surrender Rondo.  Since there are multiple teams that can sign him outright or offer .Cleveland alluring packages, it's pretty likely that Rondo would need to be involved.

Just a fun hypothetical so I'll go with Rondos salary makes him a more valuable piece to keep and build around.  Boston actually turns down the trade.

10 million doesn't sound like a bargain but, it is.

I do believe LJ has the most raw talent of any player that's ever played the game.  He's not the best player though because there is much more to the game than talent.

Cleveland won't own his rights. We're just giving them something to enable us to offer him more money. They'd be losing him in any case. Say we offered them a re-signed Ray, Davis and 3 first round picks? If they take it, they get those assets and Ray would be a valuable trade chip. If they refuse, they would likely lose LeBron for nothing. If he had a year or more left on his contract and Cleveland controlled his rights it would cost you Rondo, but not in a sign and trade.

And, obviously, I agree it won't happen, but players like Rondo don't get traded to facilitate sign and trades.

I agree that players of Rondo's ability should not be traded in sign and trades ... but I think the Celtics lack of alternative assets boxes them into a corner.

I don't think the Cavs sign off on any other type of deal.

Again, though, I think Rondo leaving makes signing with the Celts a lot less appealing to James. We'd basically have James/Paul/KG/Perk and no backcourt, KG and Paul are both on the downside and KG's been battling knee problems.

Can you please stop spewing your dislike for Rondo around the forum? We get it, you don't think he is that good (for whatever ridiculous reason you have *cough* lack of scoring *cough*)
