Plus, the Conspiracy Theorist in me ;D says that Stern would love to see a Shaq VS Kobe Finals next year, no matter what team Shaq was on.

Stern is all for the Drama, and you just couldn't write up a better script than this one.

Like Bahku stated..there are so many sub-plots here.

Shaq would definitely help on the boards. Perk is what, 6'10"? Shaq is legit 7'2". He would nullify Howard, Bynum, and Gasol. The more i think about this, the more i'm excited about trying to bring him on board.

Yep.

Plus, it's so funny to read Silver Screen and Roll over the last 3 weeks or so and they make Very Little (If Any) mention of Shaquille O'Neal there...like the Big Fella never existed.

Imagine that - the same man that gave our Captain his nickname, wearing Celtics Green..a year from now, us VS LA in the Finals...Shaq in prime shape..teaming up with Perk, KG, Glen (A fellow LSU player ;D) up front...stopping Kobe and CO from winning their 17th banner.....a bruised Gasol, Bynum and O'dom in the LA frontcourt....LA Fans booing Shaq because he's wearing Green.....

I like the possibilities here.

I have to admit ... the idea is incredibly enticing ... all these possibilities playing out ... Shaq getting the final word with Kobe as a Celtic, beating the Lakers in the Finals, etc., etc. ... wow. I doubt he'd ever take the cut in money and minutes, but it would be so cool in so many ways! I've always liked Shaq ... he's always been one of my favorite non-Celtics, work-ethic-wise and personality-wise, and naming "The Truth" was the ultimate vote for me ... I'd love to see him end up in green.

And I really believe that if Shaq believed that we could get back to the Finals next year, I think he'd take a pay cut or something to get it done...for him at this point in his career....to stick it to Kobe one last time Shaq would Definitely sign with us, I think...it's all about LA and Kobe's perceived Disrespect to him.

And like I mentioned earlier - they make Very Little (if any) mention about Shaq on the Laker Blog. I think he'd love to go out with another ring and mock Kobe.

Imagine Shaq up front with KG? Both are smart players...of course Perk would continue to start, and this would free Perk up to be a little more aggressive, knowing he had Shaqtus to come un and spell him.

I just think that Shaq was mis-used in CLE..imagine him taking Alley-Oops from Rajon....

You're right ... the residual "benefits" might just be enough to entice him ... especially after the "One more than Shaq" comment. The more I think about this, the more I like it ... this would be very do-able, and contrary to some, I think he'd be a great addition to the rotations, and an awesome one to the locker-room as well. Very cool idea.

Unless Shaq is willing to take a veteran's minimum contract and a role as a backup, I don't want him here.

Good Point - I just don't see him as expecting a huge payday, myself...if Shaq believes that our core has a shot at getting back to the finals next year, Shaq's Dream is to have a Seven Game Finals VS LA, on the Big Stage...one more chance for him to one-up Kobe.

I just don't think Shaq will sleep or retire until he gets one more shot at Kobe.

After reading the thread....I gotta say the more comments I read...the more I am liking this idea.

Like some of you said it sure would brings loads of drama and media attention if Shaq does somehow end up as a Celtic and in 2011 there is a rematch of Lakers vs Celtics. Shaq would obv be looking for some revenge from his ex-teammate, especially after that silly comment by Kobe about winning 1 more than Shaq.

Btw....a few Laker fans I know actually want Shaq to come back to the Lakers and help them get a 3-peat.

My main concern is that I don't want to use any of the MLE on him. Yes we need big guys if Perk's injury leaves him out a while and Sheed retires but the answer is not to rely on 38-39 year old Shaq, an injury prone guy over the last 7 years or so unless he was in Phoenix. And this team will have other holes to fill as well as I get the feeling Nate Robinson will not be back and a backup scoring wing will also be a ppriority.

I'd certainly hate to see Nate go..he has been the best backup PG we've had in a while, IMO.

Nick makes some good points on the MLE and Shaq, though..I'd hope that both Danny and Shaq could work something out...

Danny: "Shaq - come onboard the Green. We'd love to have you, but we need to sign a few other players as well. You've made a Lot of money already in your career...you know we have a Great shot at getting back to face Kobe...imagine facing him wearing Green, Big Fella! You have a great core here with Ray, KG, Paul and now Rondo..you know Rondo would get you the ball...you and KG could play pick and roll and pop all day long. You'd be a great locker room addition, too. You would be a great addition to our bench and would give Perk more leeway in being aggressive."

"What do you say, Big Fella? One more shot at Kobe to silence him forever? We can do this, but in order for it to be a success you've gotta work with us financially."

Shaq: "Where do I sign, Danny?"

Wow, Stern would be drooling at the chance of making money on the "Sinister Six" (obviously the Celtics) versus the "Marvel SuperHeroes" (Kobe and his gang).

Shaq in green? I'd like it, and yes, it should be for the minimum, to play limited minutes and on a mission: Beat LA!

Imagine if Sheed comes back also, it would be a massive supervillain team. I'd love all the hate from the media, the refs, Stern and all those clowns.

Me likes it!!!

Plus, Shaq is the only other Big (Besides Perk) in the NBA right now that can manage Dwight.

Imagine Perk and Shaq in Green..I think our path through ORL next year becomes even easier.

While Shaq was in CLE, their games VS LA were won not because of what Lebron did, IMO - but due to the fact that it seemed as if Gasol and Bynum were terrified of Shaq.

I don't recall the box scores of the two LA - CLE games last year, but I definitely don't recall Gasol and Bynum being effective against Shaq, even in his advancing age.

I would give Shaq the MLE if it's for 1 year. If Sheed retires and Perk being a question mark with his injury, getting a center is our #1 priority. The best option out there is probably Haywood, but I doubt we would be able to get him with the MLE. After Haywood, Shaq is the next best option.

Sure he is old and not close to what he once was, but he still was able to give the Cavs 12/7/1.2 in limited minutes last year. On a per minute basis, he would be our best rebounder which was obviously a weakness for us. I'm sure Rondo and Shaq would connect for a few alley-oops throughout the year as well.

Exactly.
Shaq could help, not doubt. But I wouldn't be willing to use the MLE on him at this point. No way, no how. Now if he's willing to take the vet's minimum.....

If Shaq signed and Rasheed stayed (Perk) recovers during the off-season we would have the best front-court in the league hands down. Heck we almost won Game 7 with Kendrick on the sideline if it weren't for those ruthless refs. Leaving Hickson, Big Z & Side-show Bob for Garnett, Davis, Perkins and possibly Rasheed would definitely be an upgrade of O'Neal's situation.
