With Perk's and Wallace's questionable status for next year I'm all for signing Shaq and if you have all 3 healthy come playoff time that's a bonus.   Hopefully Baby can take another step up with his play next year as well.

It would be strange though having a former Laker on our team.   How many times has that happened?  Gary Payton is the only 1 can think of in recent history.

Of course if we played the Lakers again in the finals that would just add to the drama.

We all agree that Perk is gone for part of the season, but there's no consensus that he'll be shopped. So given the possibilities of that and Sheed retiring, I'd say sign Shaq and draft a big. Here's why

Shaq starts in place of Perk so he can learn the system and get in shape. BBD picks up Sheeds minutes and our draft pick(Dexter Pittman or whoever) works 5-8 mpg at PF/C. Then halfway into the season, Perk returns to start and now Shaq could be in shape and now our system and our draft guy would have had enough time to shine or stutter.
Come playoffs, Shaq turns into this years Sheed and shows up for us. Also having a great passer like Shaq in the paint, Rondo can get more layups and Nate might get a dunk in
Can't stop, Rondo!

This morning I was thinking of the Celtics this off season and what they can do to improve for next year. My conclusion was that Shaq would make a great acquisition to the team as a 15-18 minutes a game backup.

Who does not think with Shaq down low in the 4th quarter of game 7, the Celtics would now be NBA Champs??  Not to mention he is still a force on the boards and against a big man like Dwight Howard or Andrew Bynum!

On top of that he can be signed for little and is an insurance policy.  His slow down style does not affect the Celtics much as they are more of a half-court team.

Imagine the story line.  Not sure if this was posted already but Shaq on the Celtics back in LA for a rubber match of championships?

The media would have a frenzy.....

I can't see how it would hurt us. Definitely helps the rebounding and makes a difference in a situation like Game 7. With Shaq we may not need Game 7 likely to get the job done quicker. Lot less second chance opportunities for the opponent.

I think he would be motivated to get back at Kobe. If we stay in tact there is no doubt it's Celtics and Lakers again next year and Shaq off the bench helps allot.

Shaq would definitely help on the boards. Perk is what, 6'10"? Shaq is legit 7'2". He would nullify Howard, Bynum, and Gasol. The more i think about this, the more i'm excited about trying to bring him on board.

I can already see it now - Shaq and Iverson. The NBA retirement home seeking revenge against the Lake-Show for all of the marbles. If y'all will remember, Shaq is originally from the Eastern Conference and won a title there after the Lakers disowned him in favor of 'Co. - B' (Kobe). It would be an epic grudge-match, for certain.

LOL...might as well get Penny, Webber, Grant Hill, Kidd, and every other all-star from the 90's to join in too. Whatever it takes to stop the Fakers from 3-peating. 8)

My Question is - If we sign Shaq, what nickname does he get?

The Big Green?

The Green Monster?

I'd love to get him here, provided that Perk isn't ready by beginning of the season, and provided that Sheed doesn't return.

Yep.

Plus, it's so funny to read Silver Screen and Roll over the last 3 weeks or so and they make Very Little (If Any) mention of Shaquille O'Neal there...like the Big Fella never existed.

Imagine that - the same man that gave our Captain his nickname, wearing Celtics Green..a year from now, us VS LA in the Finals...Shaq in prime shape..teaming up with Perk, KG, Glen (A fellow LSU player ;D) up front...stopping Kobe and CO from winning their 17th banner.....a bruised Gasol, Bynum and O'dom in the LA frontcourt....LA Fans booing Shaq because he's wearing Green.....The Boston Celtics winning Banner 18 with Shaquille O'Neal on our Team...imagine the frustration from Kobe with this possibility.

I like it.

I have to admit ... the idea is incredibly enticing ... all these possibilities playing out ... Shaq getting the final word with Kobe as a Celtic, beating the Lakers in the Finals, etc., etc. ... wow. I doubt he'd ever take the cut in money and minutes, but it would be so cool in so many ways! I've always liked Shaq ... he's always been one of my favorite non-Celtics, work-ethic-wise and personality-wise, and naming "The Truth" was the ultimate vote for me ... I'd love to see him end up in green.

And I really believe that if Shaq believed that we could get back to the Finals next year, I think he'd take a pay cut or something to get it done...for him at this point in his career....to stick it to Kobe one last time Shaq would Definitely sign with us, I think...it's all about LA and Kobe's perceived Disrespect to him.

And like I mentioned earlier - they make Very Little (if any) mention about Shaq on the Laker Blog. I think he'd love to go out with another ring and mock Kobe.

Imagine Shaq up front with KG? Both are smart players...of course Perk would continue to start, and this would free Perk up to be a little more aggressive, knowing he had Shaqtus to come un and spell him.

I just think that Shaq was mis-used in CLE..imagine him taking Alley-Oops from Rajon....
