The Cavs are flawed. All the contenders this year have weaknesses. They should all be worried.
None of them come close to the Shaq Lakers, the Duncan in his prime Spurs or never mind the Bulls before that.
Which flaws should have them worried? Honestly. Not trying to be a punk, actually just want to chat
Shaq is slow - clogs the paint, and can't defend a pick and role very well. Mobile centers can get by him.
Varajao can't shoot from the outside (neither can Shaq)
The outside shooters tend to get cold. They are very streaky.
Cleveland still reverts to the Lebron iso. Obviously this mostly works, but it can have a compounding damaging effect when the outside shots aren't falling.
More so than any other team, the Cavs are one bad superstar injury away from becoming the worst team left in the playoffs.
Having said all of that, without a doubt, the Cavs are the favorites this year to win the whole thing. Lebron is the best player in the NBA and he is on a mission. Varajao has locked down the role as the Dennis Rodman-esque energy player.
Yet, you can't feel 100% secure about their chances. Or 90... or 75...
They have yet to prove that they can handle the Magic in the playoffs, or the Lakers for that matter.
Heck if you weren't just a little worried about the Celtics, you wouldn't be spending so much time on this blog with the second round still almost 2 weeks away.
I can't argue a whole lot with what you have said here. I am pretty confident that the Cavs will make it through the East. I am not aogant enough to say that they definitely will. I think they match up very well with both the Celtics and the Magic this year. I honestly think the East is theirs to lose.
As for why I hang out here so much? This board tends to talk basketball a lot more than Cleveland boards. There is one decent cleveland forum I go to, but it has a lot of worthless posts in it as well. I also like talking about basketball with people who don't share the same opinion as me.
Match up well v.s Celtics huh?
lets take a deeper look
Perkins vs. Shaq Perkins has routinely dominated Shaq throughout his young career, given that Shaq is a clogger I give:
Advantage: Celtics
PF Garnett vs. Jamison Garnett has very good outside shot still, and game 1 was evidence that he is feeling well in the knee again given the obnoxious amounts of oops and dunks he was throwing down, extremely positive sign. Rasheed, cant give an answer on him because I dont know what the heck he is going to give to this team
Jamison doesnt match up to KG, KG would still end up outplaying him to be honest.
SF Pierce vs. LeQueen - Of course advantage to the Cavs there yes he is a great player blah blah blah but the fact is, Pierce is fully capable of matching him any given game , as he did in 08, Pierce is getting better as he goes on this season and not many in the NBA can say that. I give the advantage to Lebron but give a half point to Pierce
SG- Ray Allen vs. Parker
Parker is a good player..dont get me wrong, but he is nowhere to the level of Ray Allen. I dont even need to type much more than that.
Pg. Rondo vs. Mo Williams one of the most overrated point guards in the NBA is Mo Williams. He goes cold...often he was nothing in Milw. and is only hyped because of who is on his team, he has not progressed much as a player, changed his game, or really shown that he is a top 8 or 9 PG in the league. Rondo on the other hand has shown that he is a dominant PG in the league, and if he is facing someone of his caliper he has always stepped up his game. He plays with a chip on his shoulder and I would take him anyday
Advantage : Celtics
So your starting 5 has 1 player better than the Celtics
How about Bench?
Celtics Bench: Tony Allen, Rasheed Wallace, Nate Robinson, Marquis Daniels, Sheldon Williams, Glen Davis
Cavs Bench. Varaclown , Moon, West, Z,Hickson, Gibson, Powe
Have to call that one a draw... Tony Allens D is great...could be a stopper for Lebron and any offense he gives you is a plus. Same deal with Robinson except any D he gives you is a plus. Sheldon and Davis are rebounders much like Varaclown. Moon is one dimensional, much like Rasheed (except different positions) Daniels is slightly a better player than Gibson and West.
All I know is if I were Cleveland I would be rooting for Miami
