If they can get him on the cheap (which i think there is a good chance), I have no problem resigning him.  He's far from perfect in any aspect of the game but still pretty servicable and not a bad guy to have on your bench for certain situations.

Tony Allen's Jump Shot
  • 2009/10 -- 33% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 21% of them
  • 2008/09 -- 39% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 28% of them
  • 2007/08 -- 50% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 41% of them
  • 2006/07 -- 34% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 36% of them
  • 2005/06 -- 42% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 33% of them
  • 2004/05 -- 40% of his shot attempts where jumpers and he made only 36% of them
In the last six years, he has had only one season where he had a serviceable jump shot + somewhere between a third and half of his shot attempts where jump shots.

Tony Allen does not have a jump shot.

I agree, but so what. Ray Allen has a jump shot, how did he do last night? No comparison between the two, obviously, but TA can be a valuable player.

I like Tony as a fall-back option but I would rather see a shooter on the wing.

I would be 100% behind re-signing him if the C's didn't have a non-shooter like Rondo as their point guard.

I'm 100% behind resigning him now.  We don't need to touch the MLE to resign him, he's shown the ability to contribute in limited minutes this season (allowing Doc to slot him in as the 4th or 5th wing without worrying about losing him) and he's shown he can play somewhat effectively with Rondo (the top 2 ballhawks in the league, IMO).

I think he'd make an excellent backcourt mate with Mike Miller if were to go that route in free agency.

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon

He was good last year also, until he re-injured himself. And Tony's problem has not been his work ethic or any of that sort. He's always played hard, he's just played dumb at times.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
can we just be a little patient here and put the contract extension on hold?

it was one game, fellas.  we all know this could change on a dime, and come tuesday night people could be wanting doc to cut him on the spot.

And that is the point, Kenmaine.

Good on the research and all, but man did TA look like he drilled every J in that LA game. Hit a few J's in the Magic game on Christmas day, too. And since then, as well.

During those games over the years when his J was bad, I wonder if he was playing injured?

I certainly respect those who may say what TA has and doesn't, but now that he is healthy and playing well we are seeing how valuable he really is.

I now propose a Formal Burial Ceremony:

I propose burying "Bad or Good Tony", and replacing it with "Healthy or Unhealthy Tony" ;D
